Lee Barrett played very well, made some really good saves in the first half.

Budtz had a mare in the second half.

The right back looked weak, and uncomfortable on the ball.

Matty Robson did ok.

Antwi looked like a very good player.

James Brown took his goal very well, and looked tricky at times.

Tony Sweeney was virtually anonymous.

Gary Liddle was the best midfielder on the pitch.

It will be interesting to see how Mackay plays agains crapper teams, he has a quick turn but doesn't seem to anticipate whats going on in build ups....

EDIT - I saw fuck all wrong with the Pools nd goal that the ref chalked off.......

Humphreys may have well worn black and white for all the use he was.

Antwi looked decent.

Humphreys did give the ball away a lot. Number 17 also did nothing, not sure who it was (maybe Moore).

It's only a kickabout though.

And Richie Barker looked like he'd had a few sessions at Tan-fastic.......

I concur with pretty much everything above.

Antwi looks the mutts nutts.

Lee barrett was great first half.

Richie Humphries was garbage. God help us if he is a regular this season.

I was sat with some Newcastle supporting mates (genuine fans who attend games). Of our players they thought Antwi, Porter and Lee Barrett were our best players. They were very complimentary about us and seemed pleasantly surprised. clappp

Jonny, Budzt let in a very soft goal but with all due respect he made one mistake. He could do nothing with the other two. I feel sorry for the lad as I know what some are like who 'support' Pools, it will be all round the town how shite this new keeper is. I won't judge anyone on 45 minutes in a friendly after 8 days of training.

I'm also suprised to see you on Sweeneys back  I mean he was only up against three England internationals, he should have bossed the game  He did ok, a couple of good runs first half one leading to shot. Liddle was yet again highly impressive in those surroundings, him and Brown didn't look out of place against that opposition.

You couldn't fail to be impressed with Antwi but Ben Clark was also good. McCunnie got better as the game went on after a nervous start Lee-Barratt played well. Elliots set piece delivery was very good and he looked very fit, certainly nothing like a 33 year old.

1st half was boring. 2nd half we brought on brown on the right wing and moore up front. Brown showed his class took his goal well and ran at them. Gary Liddle played well lee barret made some good saves, ben clarke played well, mcunnie was poor, robbie elliot organised the back 4 when he came on. Barker won every header against a 6 fooot 5 center half. 6000 there tonight most probably geordies but i enjoyed it nice to have football back. Best laugh was joey barton trying to scare mcunnie when he ran at him and mcunnie had the ball barton went ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH think it worked mind. Good support from the geordies.

Ameobi changed the game we couldn't get the ball off the big lanky fooker!!

Dyer was typical Dyer, exciting at times but little end product (well apart from making Newcastle first goal  )

Budtz generall looked a bit edgy in my opinion. I'm sure he is better than what we saw tonight.

I am only commenting on what i see, the starting xi is unlikely to be the one to play against Luton and I'm sure there is more to come from some players.

I said 'at times' once when he burst past Matty Robson in the first half leaving him for dead. I agree with you though how he has got so many England caps is beyond me.

£80,000 A WEEK he gets paid for playing 15 times a season and having nights out down the quayside

Humphreys had 11 tonight. And your mate isnt wrong although it is the 1st 45 minutes of a pre-season so we shall wait and see.

Its good to be back!!

Humphreys bashing to boot!!

What I didn't understand is Matty starting at left back and Richie left wing sctatchinghead Matty did ok against Dyer though, Richie wasn't that bad he just wasted a couple of crosses and when I say wasted I mean he cleared the Rink End.

I was confused actually seeing Matty Robson in a pools shirt again. I thought (hoped) his days at Pools were numbered, you never know some desperate league 2 or northern league club might come and save us by taking him on loan.

And he has Hepatitis.

Hence the 15 or so games a season.

And why they can't sell him.

Lee-Barrett is the dogs bollocks.

Antwi is the cats whiskers.

McCunnie struggled a bit at right back but we'll see how he progresses as time goes on.

Elliot did ok.

Butdz was unfortunate to make that mistake, couldn't really do anything about the other two.

Moore put the effort in but didn't get much of the game.

That's my first opinions on our signings then.

Also Brown is the cows sack.

Porter was alright, in and out. Mackay wasn't that bad...someone on rivals said he was off the pace...he defintley weren't slow or weary.

That's it. Oh and it wouldn't suprise me if the ref was offered a bung by the corrupt bastads cause our second had nothing wrong it. One of their's was offside. It would have made my dad to show them Mags up if those decisions had of been correct, made my day. It still did, cause they were expecting to destroy us. rolfl

Got to the ground at ten to seven didn't get in till twenty to eight because nobody knew which turnstiles you were allowed to pay at, must have queued in five different ones, the stewards didn't have a clue. Ticket office couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery banghead banghead banghead
Apart from that enjoyed the game
Lee Barrett was fantastic
Antwi is class
Humphries needs to sharpen up or he won't get a game this season
The defence was caught square a few times especialy for their first two goals
Things are looking bright for the comming season

Im liking Matty Robsons "shot" even more after watching it again which led to Browns goal.

Must admit i didnt expect to see him featuring again for us.

Matty did well last night. Do you reckon the goons will be able to decimate his confidence to the extent they did last season now he seems to have it back again Tree?

Is it just me that thought Matty didn't do too bad last time we were in league 1 when he was played in midfield and not in defence, especially his goal against Chesterfield
