Agreed horden, it is indeed a shit draw - so no change there for unlucky Pools during recent years. There is little or no prospect of securing either a result or bumper gate as the Gills fans are hardly going to be attracted in their masses by non-league Pools - unless they envisage a turkey shoot that is.

Bates may as well negate the risk of injury to key players by sending the 1st team fringe lads and youth team down to Kent on their student railcards for this Mouse cup tie. The only consolation is that we will be put to the sword by a respectable football club at a proper football ground rather than some non-league donkeys at their local rec.

I think we can at least get a draw the teams we play in the NL raise their game against us as they see us as one of the big teams.

In any case we are not a bad team away so just give them a good game and with a bit of luck you just never know.

What a Shite draw man, Admittedly it will be
A good test for our players plus we tend to play better away so might get a cheeky win

Even a half decent draw at home against a side with a decent away following, Tenner in a game 6000+ in the Vic easy

But again Shiite draw banghead

If we won, we would probably get Colchester in round 2. Gillingham may be struggling in league 1 but I think they will have far too much for us, league 1 is a big step up in class. Play a weakened team and it could be shades of Port Vale in the cup in the 90s, when we got well and truly slammed by Joe Allon and Co. They may do to us what we failed to do against Kidsgrove. We need to win at least two of our 3 league games prior to this game, to give a full strength team the confidence to go to Gillingham and at least get them back to the Vic.

Morecambe 3- Pools 0 in this round of the FA Cup last year felt like the moment the wheels came off our season. Till then we were talking about making the play offs!

Things are very different this time around on and off the pitch, but I'll settle for Pools giving a good account of themselves down at Gillingham whatever the result and a win on TV against Barnet the week after.

Gills poor at home, cup upset with a pen from a dodgy Noble fall over and dramatic roll around!

could have been yeovil away though. a club with a good cup pedigree would fancy going down to gillingham and getting a good result but not pools. need to save the players as the fa trophy begins shortly.

I think we've got a fair chance. You never know, our players may relish the opportunity to play against better opposition. We might surprise a few. It wouldn't be the biggest upset the Cup has produced.

Pah Derwent! Dont be so positive, the proper poolie response is "every chance we will get beat" and "There is little or no prospect of securing a result"

I'll go glass half full on this one. Sutton beat Cheltenham, Wimbledon and Leeds on their cup run of 2017. They were (and still are) part time. We follow sport because it is unpredictable and sometimes enjoyable. I reckon an away draw. I've not been to Gillingham for years but as it is only 50 miles away, see you there.

Looking through our squad I don't see any "rabbits in headlights". We've got nothing to lose. I think we'll give them a game, Andrew Davies will make sure of that. Who knows we may even have Williams making an appearance. I'll shurrup now before I get carried away.

We will no doubt keep it tight and I doubt there be more than 1 goal in it. Looking forward to it.

Back in the heady days of us being a struggling third tier club I recall us underwhelming hugely at home against Conference opposition (Kettering and Vauxhall Motors spring to mind) so it would be silly to write off our chances just yet.

I'd say we're more than capable of keeping it goalless until half time. And then a bit of home frustration might kick in and you never know.

We have a branch near Gillingham and a few got taken into its city centre for a curry, they all returned to say ""if I ever hear anyone call Hartlepool a shithole again im going to point them to Gillingham"

I have,it is a complete shit hole, away end exposed to the elements with temporary seating.
If going by train or road better stopping off in Rochester, plenty of pubs etc & only about 3 miles short of Gillingham,8 minute train journey.

Yeah I've been a few times. I think the temporary seating has been replaced but it is still wide open to the elements. The walk from the train station to the ground is awful. So much so you tend to run back. It makes port Clarence look like the West End. It really is a dump.

And when you think of away fans travelling by train arriving at Pools and the journey to the ground they must be quite impressed with Church Sq / Christ Church /Clarence Road and views over to the marina and HMS Trincomalee not to mention our very neat ground.

I was at that F.A cup game, I was also at the game where Franksy got a 90 odd minute winner in December 2014 think it was, Went wild behind the goal can remember lol

I wouldn't mind good cup run, Get to the third round get a premier league team at home, A good established premier league team a Everton or a Newcastle and maybe get a BBC slot on the tele, Get a bit off revenue at the club and a bit off good publicity (For Once) fill the ground to 7600 plus.

Won't happen but I can dream at night can't I eyhhh!! Even Sunderland home or away would be a cracking draw to me, 10000 poolies would be unbelievable again like we did in 2003 or even more fans at Sunderland or Newcastle away, What is there away end allocation just out off interest? There's bound to be a few supporting Newcastle fans on here even though they won't admit it.

Ground has changed a lot , for the better , since we were last there , but away end has got to be one of the worst in English football, up there with Swindon.

As a day out , not one of the best, but not far from London, and fun can be had if you look hard enough.

Our 200 will be up in the top right hand corner.

I'm told they'll close that stand Ronnie and we'll be in the smaller covered stand to the left of the picture.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm looking forward to Bromley, Dover and Maidenhead and may give gillingham a miss, just nothing to excite me about the prospect of going there confised

Well that will be a blessing, especially if raining. It is one to miss, I probably will too. Going to Bromley and probably Dover and Maidenhead.
