Cracking win for the young England boys tonight - 3 great goals (Spain's 2 weren't bad either) and this new competition thingy certainly beats the hell out of international friendlies.

Every game in the tournament is contracted to Sky, basically its their own cup. Its the MK Dons equivalent of televised football.

Great win for England though.

Ramos being Ramos again and Sterling being a world class striker. I never watched the Croatia game on Friday but from what was said about that, lessons were learnt. Barkley and Rashford looked like they belonged at that level.

Only downside was Pickford at the end, their striker did put hands on him but why take the chance, even with a comfortable lead?

Added bonus for me was seeing Ramos desperately pleading with the ref not to end the game just after they scored, one of those players you love to hate but would also love to have in your team.

Just watched it , great finishing, Pickford had a game of 2 halves, made first two goals , but very shaky in second half , gifting them their first goal.

I've been on Sky for at least 15 years - fine if the BBC wants to sink its money into 'light entertainment' but I'm a sports nut and big fan of HBO drama series. The only time in the week that I watch BBC regularly is Sunday morning - MOTD and the Andrew Marr show. Otherwise it's hardly ever on, and I'd happily give the Beeb up altogether if it wasn't compulsory to pay the licence fee.

With the way things are changing so rapidly in the broadcast/streaming market, people banging on about 'it should be on terrestrial TV' already sounds quaint. Those days are long gone, never to return.

To watch footy now at all levels it would cost you the thick end of a ton each month. Far too much for me.

Shame it looked a great game.

You're probably right , like a lot of other things , never to return. Difficult balancing act though , making sure you have enough people with enough money to keep these new things going. At the moment in this country, it doesnt look too promising.

Pickford should have stopped the corner but the marking from it was appalling. Wasn't it Kane who just let his man go?

A clever bit of gamesmanship by the England management team, perfectly illustrated on the ITV highlights last night, it is a great pity that this tactic wasn't successfully deployed in the world cup and thank goodness Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford have at last found there shooting boots, and how, good stuff.

Pickfords tackle wasn't too shabby either. Maguire fast becoming Englands Chellini or maybe just Robert Huth for now

When you subscribe to Sky, you are paying to stop others watching!
If folk refused to pay, sport would be free on BBC/ITV as it was in the good old days.

Really? First, the BBC isn't free. Second, what good old days are you remembering? Match of the Day, the Cup Final and the Ashes bears no comparison with the amount of live sport you can see on the likes of Sky. In fact, there's more live footie on Sky in a week than there was on BBC/ITV in a year.

The BBC still has pretty much a monopoly of championship athletics and what do they do with it? They've had the same presenter, the same expert panel and the same commentators for a decade. You have to die to get off that gravy train!

Conkering with Mr Kint. IPTV is dirt cheap and as long as you've got a decent internet connection the quality is fine. Add in the fact that you get to watch whatever matches you fancy without any money going to Sky, Bein or BT and you're actually boycotting in the way Dstanley suggests at the same time. You do get betting ads though, in my case Irish ones.

Unfortunately Malcolm, you like many others think that because the Beeb is funded by TV licence money that that is the purpose of a TV licence. It is necessary to have a TV licence in law TO RECEIVE A TV SIGNAL. The link with funding the BBC has nothing to do with the requirement to hold a TV licence. In fact you require a TV licence even if you do not have a television but want to record programmes on say a VHS box. If you have a monochrome tv set with say a VHS box you require a colour licence because you are receiving a colour signal. So your 'firstly' comment is technically incorrect. You need to pay to receive TV signals, not to watch BBC.

As for the good old days, watching TMS cricket free on the BBC with commentators Richie Benaud and Jim Laker takes some beating.

ps Now does anyone doubt that I am indeed mid 70's!

Whatever it's nominal purpose, I don't think the licence fee would have survived if any of the Tory attempts to privatise the BBC had been successful, but there you go.

I remember TMS very well myself, and Benaud and Laker were peerless commentators. It's a pity the BBC were 'priced out' of test cricket but at the end of the day 24 hour live sport is a niche market and the Beeb were never going to prioritise paying for the Ashes over paying for the likes of Strictly or the Jonathan Ross Show.

Sky shows every England test series live, away to Sri Lanka this winter for example. The BBC never paid for the rights to cover series like that, nor would they now if Sky suddenly disappeared. Same with football - the Beeb wouldn't pay to show live La Liga games, for example - unless the cost was absolute peanuts and then they'd only be interested in Real v Barcelona.

Most of the argument is really a case of comparing apples with pears.

I got mine from a bloke who runs a business selling UK TV to people in France. He used to do Sky dishes and proxies but changed to IPTV. Cost me about €60 for the box and then I pay €20 a month for everything, bit more than it would cost in the UK I think. See if anybody on here who has got it can recommend somebody. Easy to use once it turned up.

You buy a firestick and I come over your gaff and set it up, £5 a month for provider and that it, hours of enjoyment.

He can pay £5 and drop it off at mine, he knows where I live and has darkened my rear entrance on a few occasions to pick up bread.
