I think since Bates took over with ged and Turnbull he's done a pretty impressive job so far. However one thing I think needs changing is the balance of players on the bench.

Surely at this level you need a target man either starting or to bring on. We had 3 central midfield players on the bench, all of them more attack minded.

I don't rate laing but a centre half would surely have been a better option as two of our centre halves can play full back.

Cassidy is a hard working centre forward who with decent service could score goals, how he isn`t on the bench as a bring on is crazy, but having 3 midfielders is good game management stpid

No keeper on the bench worries me.

I wouldn’t put a keeper on the bench when you only have five subs. When was the last time Pools brought on a sub keeper? I can’t think of an instance in the last ten years.

Nailed on Loach will get sent off or injured on Saturday now.

Here we go fact fans.

The last time we used a sub keeper was Andy Rafferty at half time in a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in August 2013, when it appears Scott Flinders had a tight arse.

Keepers are less likely to get sent off these days as well with the changing of law for penalties if you are making an attempt to play the ball.

Plus like PaulL says I like outfield players in goal. Brian Honour, John McPhail and Shane Reddish have all been top keepers in the past. Down with sub keepers.

I see Williams wasn't on the bench Saturday, there's a large lump of quality right there.

McPhail's second half performance in goal away at (er Brighton?) was absolutely legendary.

Never claimed on my house insurance, but keep shelling out each month even tough statistically I'm wasting my money.

I remember when you only had 1 sub, then they brought in 3 subs, at first 1 of the 3 was a goalie, now 5 and no goalie. Surely with 5 subs, 1 goalie, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, 1 forward, and 1 utility player or players who can play in more than position? Just saying for a friend!

I think at this level you can gamble on not having a keeper on the bench. If once a season keeper gets sent off or injured you just have to roll with it. Would Ryan Catterick of been the answer to our prayers had he had to come on anyway?.

Anyway I'm proposing we train up Josh Hawkes as sub goalie. Its the only way he will get a game.
