...would you ask for an England World Cup win to be swapped for a Pools promotion?

I would, in fact I would certainly go as low as a play-off spot, maybe lower. I'm enjoying the World Cup but you have to have your priorities right when you're negotiating with a deity.

I'd bargain with him for both. Like somehow encourage monkeybutt to eat healthy so the god of football (he's called Ritchie I believe) doesn't have to put up with his crap banter for a while longer.

England win World Cup.
Then hope Pools by some miracle get promoted.
The perfect double in my opinion!

If god did exist he would have given the turkish referee some balls. Plus pools will always be mediocre given 110 years of mediocrity. Stupid question really.

Referee was crap but England only have themselves to blame after that second half. First quality midfield pair we've come up against pulled Croatia through after several fluffed chances. I'll always be hopeful but suspect I'll never see a better chance of seeing England winning a world cup in my lifetime. It was fecking good while it lasted so Southgate and them lads better not get any stick.

Disappointed but when I compare the feeling to the Cardiff play off loss it tells me that Pools means a lot more.

Good news is that God was soft in negotiations and I got better than I hoped for. Pools are up! Praise the Lord!

This. No comparison when you think about it. England lose a a big game and a nation shares our 'pain' - including loads of folk who've never seen a football match except on TV. Pools lost the biggest game in their history and nobody except Poolies even noticed.

after cardiff i was niggly with everyone for weeks including my dog. do not think the club ever really got over that one. as for england i wanted them to win but by bedtime i had forgotten about it unlike a pools defeat where even after a couple of hours driving i am still thinking about what could have been.

After we lost at Cardiff we went straight into Poolie Pride mode. Because we care.
I enjoyed England's world Cup run but I can't see myself going down to the recording studio any time soon.

Well, not for that reason anyway.

England winning the World Cup every day of the week. What is happened over the last few weeks has galvanised the country, Has given English football a feelgood factor and has made your average football fan smile.
Pools getting back into League 2, really ?
