Neale Cooper

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

Judging by this thread he had time for the not so ordinary ones too.

Get well soon Godzilla. Had a heart attack beginning of last year as well. My favourite Pools manager, so likeable and so passionate both about the game and Pools.

Sad, sad news. Remember the time we had a wheelchair member of our party in the boxes during his first term, he actually took time to help carry the chair and person up the outside stairs, musn’t have been a lift. Top gadgie.

RIP, genuinely gutted by this news. I initially opened the thread with hope that the Trust had arranged a talk in with Neale. Sadly how wrong I could be. I could of listened to that man speak all week.

I'd like to think the trust will send his family a thoughtful gesture whether it be flowers or a donation in his honour.

Also, in a time when everyone gets a minutes silence/applause I'd hope the fans and club organise something special to remember him at our first home game.

Absolutely terrible news, really shit, apart from how enjoyable his time at the club was on field I think he made such a huge impression on the Town because he was such an infectious, funny and throughly decent bloke. He was had been a good player who’d achieved a lot but he had not a ounce of arrogant about him he was always approachable and happy to talk to people. I don’t think a manager has ever been more loved here and that’s testament to his personality more than anything else.

RIP Super Cooper will never be forgotten in Hartlepool. My thoughts are with his family.

I'm not usually one for over sentimentality, and this is probably too soon, but can we not approach the club to suggest naming a stand after Neale as a gesture of the high regard he is held in by Pools' supporters?

A Tweet from Tom English (who’s the cheif sports reporter for BBC Scotland) that’s a quote from him from a book, this nicely puts across his sense of humour “Neale Cooper in Fergie Rises: “He (Franz Beckenbauer) said I was possibly the closest he had seen to a player like himself at that age. That was quite a compliment. But I always say that it goes to show, even Franz Beckenbauer can talk some amount of shite.”

He got the most out of players rejuvenated Boyds career, the annoying thing is we still don’t know why he was sacked to be replaced by an incompetent Martin Scott and his ex Mackum mates who he signed.
RIP Neale gone but never will be forgotten by all the Poolies.

Just echoing the above really - evidently a top, genuine bloke.

Pools fans have different opinions on what kind of manager should be in charge. With Coops he seemed to tick everyone’s box.

Passionate, engaging, played good football, motivator, tough when needed and a good eye for a player.

Gutted.

He lit up the Town and the Club with his infectious, buoyant personality, he turned Boydie from an under-achiever to one of the best Pools players ever, he signed Joel, Dimi and Hugh and he very nearly took Pools way, way above our usual status. It all seems like a dream now we're back scrabbling around in the shite, but thank you very much Neale, you will always be a true Poolie Legend.
There's a little bit of England that will always remember you, a real old world Scotsman, with great affection. R.I.P. and thanks for the wonderful memories, football is a sadder, smaller game without you.
