I don't know why you are shocked, always been the same, Mother's Day, Valentines Day restaurants always increase their prices & charge a few quid extra for the same meal you can get last week or next week cheaper.

£10.95 about the price of a pint here then!? Seriously that’s pretty cheap still for Sunday dinner surely? Just about every other business tiers prices to suit demand why can’t restaurants? Airlines and trains are the worst examples. That God awful Toby Cavery place does it every day doesn’t it? The prices go on what time you turn up and it’s always more expensive on a Sunday for the same crap that makes you feel disgusting after you’ve eat it. I don’t see a problem, supply and demand if you aren’t prepared to pay a premium when demand is highest stay in! I have never understood people who go out on a Christmas Day to eat when you get Microwave food establishments like the Tall Ships charging sixty snots a head.

The point is, it's not supply and demand, it's blatant opportunism. Nothing's changed except you've actually got more customers so you've got a bigger profit anyway.
Pure unadulterated greed.

It’s not entirely on Mother’s Day a restaurant is going to be busy and I’d imagine have all of its staff in compared to a normal day, the profit margin on £8 a head can’t be great to start with. If they were charging massively over the odds like loads of places do at Christmas then I’d agree but £10.95 is still a fair price and decent value.

£10.95 is not too much to treat the ladies in our lives, mothers, lovers and wifes on this day.

Think for a moment about the restaurant staff who have had to work and cook and serve for you while you whinge about £2.95

I thinks it’s part of the reason nothing decent rarely lasts in Hartlepool people want everthing for virtually nothing.

Nonsense, most people are happy to pay for a decent meal. What's in question is using opportunities such as this to increase prices for nothing extra.

They are usually paying staff extra for the inconvenience of working on this day

You are paying extra to be there on Mother’s Day. They will have bigger overheads due to extra staffing.

But you are still getting a cavery for less than the cost of three pints these days. It’s not a rip off.

The cost was advertised they didn’t just sneak on £2.95 when they dished out the bill.

It’s like most places these days that do lunch time or tea time specials then you book a table on Saturday night you aren’t going to get the special and the same two or three courses will cost more. Are you being ripped off on the Saturday evening?

I challenge you to find anywhere half decent yesterday where it was less than £10.95 for lunch.

I'm not whimging about anything. The restaurant staff are doing what thousands of people do in their own jobs. If they're being paid a reasonable wage is nothing to do with their customers. Would I eat cheap food ....? No.

Whoaa, I think you are being a bit trigger happy here snowy, no one suggested you would have been whingeing as you never said you were there, the op was whingeing.

I think you both misunderstood why prices go up on special days Mothers day, Easter Sunday & Christmas & New Years day etc as staff get paid more for being there, not pure profiteering as you suggest.

These events occur like the tides at predictable times and should be incorporated into the years financial planning.
Extra staff are needed for extra demand and extra demand means extra revenue to pay the staff or they wouldn't bother.

If places can keep prices lower for the rest of the year by charging gullible fools extra on so called special occasions then I’m all for it and will just not go in on the days when the prices have been ramped.

Ahmen.

If you book a table somewhere on mothers day or valentines day and dont expect a price hike then your not living on this planet.

Not saying they should, but its a well known industry practice.

Exactly ! Like most things, people can change things if they vote with their feet. For example I will be putting some flowers on my mams grave this Sunday, not on Mothers Day, as the flower shops in Blackhall double their prices of flowers on Mothers Day weekend. As a people we really are gullible and cannon fodder for big business.

As for these cheap and cheerful restaurants, they serve a purpose but they are not for me. I like an experience when I decide to go out for a meal , and don't mind paying a little extra for it. There is no excuse for restaurants serving frozen food and paying their staff slave labour wages.

A divided society looms , were one side does the eating and the other side does the serving , working unsocial hours for a pittance of a pay, sacked at the drop of a hat, and living in poverty and never able to afford a nice meal out themselves. Make sure you and yours are on the right side of the divide.

Don’t get me started on afternoon tea, what a load of rip off bollocks!? When did this phenomenon begin? The missus loves all of that shite in flowery little cups and tea pots.

Thirty bar for some cucumber sandwiches cut into little triangles and some cake. Cheers.

£30 a head is a bit extreme like, I went to Patisserie Valerie for afternoon tea before and it was only £20 for 2 people. Got a decent amount of food. 8/10.

Can't get away with Whisky like, think it tastes rank. Same with Southern Comfort.

I think a lot feel the same, same with Brandy, for that reason can't ever see Whisky taking off in a big way. Took me years to appreciate it. My old man loved a Single Malt, and I used to buy him a bottle of something that you wouldn't of then been able to get in the local supermarket every time I came back to the North East to visit my parents. Used to have a glass or two with him and it grew on me, particularly the peaty ones.
