I worked there for a year  about six years ago.

I worked in quality control (monitoring people on the phones) then cancelations for Vodaphone.

I worked there for 3 months in 1999 for Vodafone Retail. Awful.

I've never worked there, but i have heard that there is shitloads of fanny in the place.

On a serious note call centres get a lot of bad press but are vital in any successful organisation, at the company where I work we would be phuqued without a decent customer service and data entry team. I can understand that the job may not be for everyone but there are decent career prospects at Galands as far as I'm aware although the pay may not be as good as it should be......

Done 6 months as I was unemployable in any other company's book! I think their weekly Mail advert should read "Maccy D's turn you down? Come work at Garlands" instead
It's the poorest run, most depressing and nasty job going. Would not recommend the place to an immigrant

I do a lot of interviewing for another company in Hartlepool and it seems that 50% of the people who I have interviewed have worked there at one point or another.

They must have one hell of a turnover of staff

I must say I couldn't hack it in a place like that. 21 years working in the chemical/pharmaceutical industry, and now combining that job with helping our lass run a pub is tough enough for me. I'm used to making my own decisions and acting on them, and I'm used to co-ordinating new projects at work. I simply would not accept someone half my age stood over me, and ticking me off for some minor misdemeanour - bollocks to that. It's definitely an environment for people who are looking for work experience, and I imagine any job you do after that has got to be better.

On the upside when I worked at Garlands, the place was completly rammed with young blert, which sort of made up for some of the goons who where managers

So why is the place so bad? I know there's probably a lot of nob heads working at Garlaands but you get that everywhere. There must surely be some positives from the place because Garlands employ about 2000 people in the town don't they?

What would be really really funny would be to get Dr Marx of Trimdon to work in there for a couple of weeks and confuse the hell out of the dumbass supervisors and folk ringing in asking silly questions!

cheers sorry was off the pc last night there is loads of fanny there however you get a lot of tin-pot hitlers in there who are given a title of team leader which is basically a lot of more work for next to nothing who are about 25-30 ho think they have a god given right to talk to you like crap.

also people there think chey garland are doing them a big favour only paying them minimum wadge however what they dont seem to realise is she gets about 13-14 grand for each person for the contract ie from vodafone which means she clicks 3 gran of everyone working there.

its also the only place i have ever been to were they want you to chip in for HER christmas present, i asked "what she getting me for xmas" the reply was you have a job that your present so stop being tight, i replied its coz of me she lives in a nice big house

I used to work there and loved it! Money was shite but it was highly amusing cutting off people's phones if they wouldn't pay their bills.

I actually sorted out Marcus Stewart with a better tariff when he was playing at Ipswich.

Other famous people I dealt with;

Germaine Greer.
Andy Cole,
Jermain Defoe
Jazzy B (Soul2Soul)
Peter Gabriel,
Ian Bennyworth.

I work there. Another bunkerite I know worked there.

I'm a gaffer in a small part of the business and i do ok dosh wise out of it and the company and several others of it's ilk are ran well.

it was a stopgap after being self employed for 6 years and getting bored, so i tried this. peice of piss - saying that i am always on the look out for other graft, but i'm in the position where a job will need to interest me irespective of the wage and what i do at the moment does so i'll stay until the right thing comes up. In no rush to leave. And ot's only a 25 minute walk - which is good as the buses are shite.

People can slate it as much as they want it's up to them - but I have no issues with the place - i took the piss before i worked there - it's a business to make money mainly employing young people for who it's a foot in the door for work, part time jobs for students or older people who just want a bit of cash, rather than retiring or being on the dole.

And yes it is full of proper good fit minge - guess who'll be sugesting he interviews the next batch of new recruits!

Like it or loath it - half of your kids will work there at some point!!

Yup I've served my time at Garlands too.

I did about 3 years there. Started as a CSR on Vodafone, did a stint as a deputy then got promotion to Team Leader (back in the days when it was more about your ability to do the job rather than your ability to kiss ass)

Down Side== Demanding place to work, Crappy shifts, weekend working and poor wages.

Up Side == Worked with some really great people, made a few really good friends who I still see and had some crakin work nights out.

Always seen it as a career stepping stone though. Thought, get a Team Leaders job there then welcome to the board somewhere wher the pay is much better (lots to choose from)

Left around the time when they had just about exhaused all the good local talent (work wise that is!) so they had started to employ school leavers and any old muppets off the street. Same time as they opened up in Middlesbrough. The writing was on the wall so I jumped ship and found myself a far better job in the Civil Service :0D

Instant 5k pay rise, 25 days hols per year plus Bank Hols , an extra day for the Queens Birthday, an extra day at Christmas and a half day for Maunday Thursday, No weekend working (unless you want overtime at double pay plus travelling expenses at 40 pence per mile) and best of all, Flexi Time which means you can pretty much come and go as you please (within reason).

Best move I ever made. Even if the job is just as crappy, the conditions make up for it and the union takes no shit! :o)
