Best for me 4-1 v Scarborough in 1989 . The start of the Cyril Knowles great escape. Looking back at league table , time plays tricks on the memory , I honestly thought we were at least 10 pts adrift, but Colchester only had a point more and a clutch of clubs were in reach . This was followed up by a 3-1 win v Grimsby soon after , a great xmas period indeed. Up until then the season had been a mare, worse than this season even.

The worst has to be the 3-0 thumping at Darlo in 1980. 3000 poolies turned up with high hopes, we were in top 4 and Darlo mid table , unfortnately our players never turned up and we were well and truly turned over. Great atmosphere though in a 7500 crowd, although there were few poolies left on the Polam Lane End at full time , which left those who stayed behind outnumbered and with a dodgy walk back to the station/car. That result seemed to have an affect on the players and our form from then on was inconsistent, resulting in us eventually finishing 8th.

Worst away for me on Boxing Day was the first game in hulls new stadium 2002. Think we lost 2-0 but they battered us, green the blonde haired midfielder ripped us to bits n they had 22,000 fans taunting us. We had the last laugh though, where the hell are hull now eh!

Pools 2 Brentford 2 Boxing Day 1966. Remember being 11 and Brentford's team coming out to warm up an hour before kick off up the town end. I was always a fan of their number 11 John Docherty from that day. On an icy bone hard pitch Pools were 2 down at half time as I recall and then went to Brentford for the return the next day (27th December and won 2-1. The worst Boxing day experience? Can't recall but there must have been one. Could actually be this once at The Heed come to think of it.

That one was the best for me too Ronnie. Scarborough didn’t know what hit them that day.

Ian Bennyworth scores on debut and it felt like the start of the original great escape. The Grimsby game was 4-2 and was an amazing couple of games, played on a ploughed field.

Worst one was the thumping at Gateshead back in 2017. Terrible display

Worst about 96 at Carlisle. I was the coldest I have ever been, I remember the feet actually went numb and I had no feeling below the ankle. The pitch was also frozen, rock solid how the game went ahead is beyond me. Joe Allon played in a pair of hit tech squash trainers. They were a good side that year with players like Rory Delap, Matt Jansen, Alan Smart and big French lad at the back called Stefan Ponewatchy (who I think scored) they butchered us for 90 but somehow didn’t score until about 3 minutes from time with seemingly about the 30th corner they’d had.

Best, I remember a cracker beating Rochdale 3-2 under Turner and a very satisfying 1-0 win over Lee Clark’s odious mega bucks Huddersfield team the day of Bjornnssons miss! A result which I think put us 6th in League One under Mick Wadsworth who I believe was Carlisle manager for my worst game!

A couple of posters already mentioned Gateshead as being the worst. I share this view, can see us getting mauled up there. Some people even now, seem to think our xmas fixtures are easy, I think exactly the opposite, all sides that will get stuck in, the complete opposite of us. I will be happy with 3 points out of next 12.

I don’t know if they are meant to but a couple of your recent posts have made me laugh out loud Mr horden!

I’m presuming you would be happy with such a poor return because you could continue in this veign as misery is your comfort zone. I mean you’d take 3 points of out of 12 but you’d be buzzing with 0

You have taken me out of context PJ. Of course I wouldn't be happy. You know I wouldn't be happy with 12 out of 12. I just think were we are now, realistically 3 out 12 is what I think we could get. I should of worded it better.

Think this is my 14th season I've had a season ticket and I've only been to 2 games on a boxing day. So the best would be the classic memorable 2-1 win against Oldham in 2004.. The worst is the heartbreaking 1-1 draw against Leeds in 2007. Joking aside I think it was a bit shitty the Leeds game as Beckford scored in the 90th minute to equalise.

Bitter?, you couldn't that reply up, could you?

A handful of replies from you when we were, what I and many others thought, doing well and a feast of posts when we are dying on our arse, with not a tone of sadness, but of glee, because something you predicted a decade a go has come true, well done you!

My best wasn't actually on Boxing Day, but during the festive season in 1995

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/UI/Team.aspx?oid=61

With ECG and Co serenading Brian Kilcline with 'Little Donkey', followed by a resounding win away at Bury on New Year’s Day 1996

Sorry to hear about the Dyslexia.

A load of bo*locks! I was banned off here for a long time because of the likes of you.

Were we doing well though ? well maybe in comparison to the 90 years of basically sh*te that went before. I was more than happy that we were cementing our position as a steady league 1 club, but I knew we were punching above our weight. Nevertheless I wanted more, a season or two in the championship , a title, an away win at a Premier League club in the cup. I apologise if my ambitions were too much for you.

Thanks for finally admitting I was right, took your time though.

As I said, BITTER !!!

How were you banned because of me?

FWIW, I wanted the same, however I take no joy in our failure, you do, I'll leave it at that and let you bask in your glory

People like you and others , who rounded on individuals, it was me first then when I left others got the same treatment. Lets face it if you could round up enough followers now you would do the same again. Thankfully people have moved on and don't seem to do that on here anymore. Probably that's why you don't post as much.

I don't revel in our failure, with my comments in the past I tried to stop it. What I do revel in is proving people who slagged my comments off wrong , especially cyber bullies.

Anyway as you said, lets leave it at that.
