My sister has sent me some footage of what appears to Wesley Chapel seriously ablaze. Is it, or is it somewhere else?

Yeah, it's a goner. Just got back. The roof has caved in and fire engines from all over.
What a pity, they'll probably build another car park there

It's truly tragic the way some old buildings are neglected in Hartlepool. Tunstall Court being top of the list.

I assume it was an ‘electrical’ fault like when most derelict nightclubs/pubs burn down ?
A pity several more in the town couldn’t go the same way.

That really was a shame, magnificent inside when I went to school there. Waiting to see when they build yet more 'executive ' houses there, they're turning the town into a fecking housing estate, especially of the plans to turn the West View trading estate over to housing come off.

Wouldn’t some houses or anything there be better than what’s there now? An empty shit hole

Less likely to get planning permission for the Mill House masterplan?

It used to be pubs, now its churches getting torched. Wonder what the plan is? Luxury apartments or student accommodation

Ah, the Mill House Masterplan ...... wonder if anyone is still holding their breath over it? The sort of people who think Glenn Miller is just late getting back.
How many of these daft schemes have we had over the past few years?

But it does allow Gary Coxhall to sell nonsense to investors.

Wouldn't electric have to be turned on first? why would there be running electricity in a derelict building?.

The full picture is a once great building has been left to turn into a scruffy Derelict heap. Too expensive to do up.

Would a shiny new building really be any worse? Nope

Christ even a bigger car park would look better.

Normally, that site would have sold like hot cakes. It hasn't. Very did, or is it.
Personally I'd have no objection to a new building providing it wasn't more houses.
But why did the council allow such a lovely building to fall into such a neglected state...?
Lot of trees there and most trees in the conservation area would surely be covered by a tree preservation order. I'd hate to see a chainsaw massacre for a cluster of executive homes.

We're in the middle of a national housing crisis, if anyone wants to build affordable housing then it should be welcomed. Better yet, the council should be given the founds to build some social housing.

I agree, but you can be sure no affordable housing will be built on that site.

It could have happened to any of about half a dozen former iconic buildings in town. To be honest, I'm surprised that of any of them it's the Wesley that went. My money would have been on Shades.

Or Spotted Cow/ Square Ring/ Oyster Bar, surprised that is still standing.

It was a striking building but to be fair it has never looked this good in my lifetime:

Or mine. It closed as a Church in 1973. Hartlepool hasn't many classic old buildings left, so its a shame if this fire means the end of the Wesley. Think most peoples abiding memory of it ( at least those under 40) are of it been a nite club in the 90s and a only open either side of xmas cheap , drink all you want bar around 10 years ago. Its last

That said, Wesley and Christ Church were proposed for demolition in the 90's for ..... Car parking.
If Stonehenge was in Hartlepool the council would have it made into a climbing wall and assault course.

Flatten the site and turn it into a nice garden so that the impressive frontage of the Grand is visible.

Christ Church was in desperate need of structural maintenance way back when I was in Christ Church Scouts.
I hope it's had some TLC since then.
