In the Northern Ireland game, utterly ridiculous.

Without a doubt one of the most ridiculous penalty decisions I've witnessed. These are supposed to be the best refs in Europe as well, you wouldn't see a decision like that on a Sunday morning, absolutely pathetic if that ends up dumping Ireland out.

Yet again a highly contentious decision blights a WC play-off fixture - this happens far too often to be pure coincidence. FIFA have an agenda of which countries they would prefer to reach the Finals and are naturally biased against the UK anyway who many within the organisation believe should have a single representative side only.

The TV replay shows that the referee could not even see the ball (partially) hit the defenders arm whilst the linesman - who had a clear view - did not signal the infringement. Switzerland were clearly the better side overall but were struggling to create any clear-cut chances until handed the gift of an illegitimate penalty kick by a bent official. Sep Blatter may no longer be pulling the strings within FIFA but his legacy clearly remains.

I thought it was supposed to be intentional? F..ck me how could he have deliberately handled that if he was facing the other way with his arms tucked in?

Disgraceful decision - never in a million years is that a penalty.

The Northern Irish needed more passion.

Even had the game finished 0-0 one suspects Switzerland will utterly hammer them in the return leg based on the game itself. Not that this excuses the bad decision mind.

They did dominate without creating much, that are clearly a better team but 0-0 would have given Northern Ireland the chance to go and do exactly the same again over there now they have got to look to win the game which might be a problem and could see them hammered. The manager has done a remarkable job though he knows how to organise a team and is very switched on tactically. It could have been very different if he’d have came here instead

Proper sliding doors moment for him that, Pools under IOR or qualifying for major tournaments with a nation.

He's a good manager to be fair, linked to sunderland, i think he can do better though.

John Hughes CV probably looks better for his time here to be fair.

Took over a club who hadnt won for 15 games or summit and somehow got manager of the month, ok he got relegated but that was nigh on guaranteed when he got the job.

I’m surprised he ever worked again after the Oldham game to be honest and I’m not restricting that purely to football. I wouldn’t have employed him on the bins after that fixture.
