Come on then ! What was it ? in relation to other clubs achievements , have we really had one? or is it to come? or given how modern football is, all seater stadium, lower capacities, premiership reserve teams, can it really happen now?.

Best I can think of is Crystal Palace 1978, but it was only 4th division beat 2nd Division, though it was fookin awesome at the time.

For me it was promotion 1991. Had to listen to the final results on the BBC world service and the only place I could get reception was the airport, so I got the bus there ...

Has to be the unbeatable period. Including the total annihilation of darlo.

That team/squad was something to behold.

It's quite sad how quickly it ha's all turned to shit really.

You know what mate ? As an exile at the time, I wasn't at the final game either. Having watched pools since around 1971 and all the struggle that went with it. I didn't have enough brownie points to be there, I had used them up going to Peterborough and Hereford away games in weeks before.

On day of the match I couldn't relax, so had to go out for the day. Being a keen walker, I decided to walk a stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal. I had been completing various parts of this canal walk during the summer anyway. A lad from work was a Southampton supporter, they were at home, and he dropped me off in Newbury, where I picked up the canal. I walked to Reading, armed with a pocket radio, listening to radio 5. I must of been on the outskirts of Reading about 2 miles from the centre, when it was confirmed that we had got promoted, I cried my eyes out, not in sadness or joy but just relief, the moment I had waited for all my young life had finally happened, I wasn't there to savour it, but my father was and so were my mates, that were enough for me. I got into Reading centre, feeling rather weird, expecting that I would want to go for an immediate drink and then another ten, but for some reason I never , I felt numb. The police were swarming all over the place as Stoke had been in town, think it was their first season in division 3 now div1 and they had caused bother all over that day. That's my memories of that great day.

The two years under Neale Cooper for me we played some great stuff and regularly hammered decent teams, we weren't as good to watch that season under Danny Wilson but most of the the players were too good to be playing in division four.

I suppose you could extend it to an eight year period were we finished in at least the play offs for 7 out of 8 seasons including two promotions (the other being a relegation, cheers scotty) during that spell I remember watching us score 4,5,6,7 and 8 at the Vic and watching loads of great footballers.

When I say finest hour colonel, I'm talking about a specific game not time, something like this

Good call Breeslaw, it certainly my favourite moment as a Pools fan, I have never felt such elation watching football.

Mind Rodney's second against Donny was up there for about two minutes!

Palace 93 surely eclipses 78, Palace were a good top flight side with a few England internationals.

The home win over Northampton in 91 for me.

Like I say missed Northampton, but after 22 years of basically shite, that has to be the game. To see the joy on the faces of those present says it all for me. My old man was in tears, particularly so that his son whom he had introduced to pools wasn't there to share the joy with him. Think if we ever won the title it would finish him off now.

Obviously the northampton game in '91 is up there ... (and it was it was my first proper season!) what a day that was... but what I think topped it was that moment at Cardiff - the sheer disbelief that we might actually just do it and get promotion to the championship when Daly buried that header from Strachan's ball in and everyone went ape...

The win at Darlo in that vital game when Joe Joe Joe allon scored the winner and pulled his shirt off and ran one thousand miles around the pitch winding up the loids. Also the win at Hull City that put us in the first play offs when Graham Lee played up top and I believe scored 2 ..what a day that was.... spoiled only by the fooooking clowns who follow Hull. They really wanted to kill each and every one of us despite the game having no meaning to them the wankers

Got to be 1991 for me, an amazing run with some amazing football having looked down and out the season before before Cyril took over.

Tranmere for me was a bit tainted because I have a horrible habit of over analyzing and thinking about things. That was Scotty's second game in charge and during the game he had worried the shit out of me already. Took Boydy off, our penalty taker, when it looked like we were going to penalties and put Tinks into centre half when it was obvious his legs had gone. He did his best to lose us the match. In saying that the feeling when the penalty went in was amazing.

Best individual moment of raw joy is potentially Rodney's second goal last season, for that moment anyway

It's hard to pick a favourite game for me

That whole period from 2000-2007 we had summit to play for every season. About 5 play offs 2 promotions n a relegation.

Was just a class time to follow pools, I was at college n uni, had no kids, plenty of free time n always on the piss so it just coincided with a good time in my youth as well.

My favourite game was the play off final, well up u til the sending offf.
I was more or less in line with SW goal and watched both goals.
To this day Westwood said he never touched the fella, then again he shouldn't have raised his arm.
Maybe Uncle Ken had a word in his ear, hey we can't afford too be promoted ?

For rattling good entertainment the 4-3 win against Luton in 2004 is hard to beat from games I've seen. I think Luton may even have had an equalising goal chalked off near the end, too.

Well, although I can remember things like Tranmere and the playoff final. I was 9 years old I don't really have an avid memory of it... I have no idea what our finest hour is in the past decade of what I can remember from being 11 - I missed peak time to be a Pools fan I guess. Nobody in my family supports Pools either, so I don't even get stories of better times. The finest hour, that I can remember is probably Carlisle away a few years ago; celebrating the great escape with a bloody brilliant comeback. Not sure how fine coming 22nd in L2 is though.

To be fair, calling the ref a fucking wanker so clearly you can lip read it on the replay didn't help our cause.

Finest hour May '68, Swansea 0-2 Pools (Cummins, Hepplewhite RIP). There will never be another first promotion. Tough if you missed it through being not born.

When you win promotion at Swansea, you must then of course beat them in the return match.
