Talking to a caretaker at a school in Darlington who has thousands of vinyl albums and attended concerts for over 40 yrs, he has recomended Joe Bonnamatta, Goverment Mule, Warren Hugheand Weather Report.
Has anyone listened to their music.

I think you might mean Joe Bonnamassa. Brilliant guitarist, saw him in Sheffield earlier this year. Duetted with Beth Hart to create 'Don't Explain'. Outstanding album, blues vocals from Beth and phenomenal guitar playing

sorry for my spelling,it was fascinating listening to him. Bonnamassas father had the premier guitar shop in LA, and Joe learnt his trade with the blues greats apparently.

Weather Report were an American jazz fusion band allegedly from 70s

Government Mule were the Allman brothers band without the Allman Brothers. They sound a lot like The Allman Brothers but a bit worse.

Harsh on Sweep.

This is just everybody playing whatever they like whenever they like:

They should be locked up for crimes against music.

Govt. Mule is the official spelling. They did a very good Smokestack Lightning but apart from that no idea.

Barring Furniture Detectives... are people just making band names up on this thread?

To be fair they don't really have a monopoly on that.

A French guy with his own recording studio once recommended them to me as an alternative to Blood Sweat & Tears. Well, being French he would, wouldn't he.

So let's get this straight. Weather Report sounds like a made up name but Furniture Detectives is the name of a bona fide group?

Riiiggghhht.

I have a couple of Weather Report albums. The one track that people remember is Birdland.

Not a big fan of music but I did enjoy the little bit of Furniture Detectives that I listened to.

They should put that on a sticker on their next album sleeve.

Joe Bonamassa's ok if you like 2 hour guitar solos, Weather Report were pointless and disbanded in '86, not heard of the other two. Furniture Detective were good but never the same after Barker and Stonehouse left

Think you mean Warren Haynes - guitarist with Allman Brothers ( later years) and Gov't Mule not Warren Hugh.
Also Larry Coryell jazz guitarist not Larry Correle

Discovered the Weather Report a couple of weeks ago when I heard Non-Stop Home, think it's a brilliant track.

Having spent most of my life involved in music in one form of another I would have to say that no music is 'pointless'. Good or Bad, liked or disliked, but never pointless !

It might not be pointless but if the point is self-indulgence it would probably be better if it pioneered some true not-having-a-point music. That goes for any art form in fact.

Still sound good now. Had 'Almost Prayed' on in the car the other day, great tune.

Yeah, they had some great tunes and they were also a great live band (most Creation bands from that era weren't.)
Pete Astor also made a number of solo records. Check out his final Creation release 'Zoo' (1992) if you have a chance, a rather wonderful acoustic effort recorded on a shoestring budget.
