Yeah forgot about him. But that would surely mean a 4-4-2 , surely if that was case, he would be playing tonight in a 4-4-2

Full Time 2-1

Thank fook for that, nice to be going into the new season with a win under our belts. One substitution, I reckon this was the starting line up for Dover.

Not a bad game tonight pools played much better second half
Still think we need to look at our left hand side munns is wasted in that position.
Looks like that will be his team next week.

Based on purely the result and the two goals he still seemed to go alright in that position with the assist for the equaliser then the winner. I have a good feeling about him.

I agree PJ he put it on a sixpence for laing and took his goal well but for me he looks like he would be so creative playing just behind amond in the centre.

I suspect if they both didn't have another year they would have been scattered, let's be honest our midfield has been dreadful for a number of years and even though I like both lads they have often fell short of good enough when it's mattered.

It's a clean slate though with a new manager at a new level.

Plus the fact we had George, Featherstone and Deverdics who didn't feature which looking at the bench must have been due to injury is worth mentioning.

We seem to have a lot of knocks and niggles and lads who have not had many minutes. Good to see Rodney back involved tonight bit Cassidy is another one not involved. Hopefully we have a cleaner bill of health next Saturday.

Didn't realise that who are we playing? Surely as we're starting at home next Saturday tonight every available first team player would be involved?

Big season for Hawkins who has become a forgotten man. Be integral this year imo

He had a really poor season last year though, a real let down after a promising end to the one before.

I'm still not sure what he is a midfield player creative/breaks up play/scores goals. It could be the making of a lad like him a slight drop in standard and hopefully a bit more confidence and self belief from winning more regularly.

I'd always put the keeper first. Unless it was ALB or Jan Budtz.

Judging by tonight's game, Hawkins seems to be a standard midfield player, bit of creatively and tackling ability but not defensive minded and isn't going to score many goals. I was right behind the dug out and CH was constantly shouting for Woods to press higher and be more attacking.

CH definitely needs new nicknames for the players though. At one point he was shouting Munnsy, Woodsy and Hawksey at the players and they couldn't tell who he was shouting to, resulting in Woods just jogging backwards and forwards trying to figure out where he was supposed to be!

I was impressed with Newton, bullied Guedioura all game in midfield and sprayed a few nice passes about, doesn't seem shy about putting his foot in.

You must have been behind me, I was confused with him shouting Munnsy and Woodsy, sounded the same and he sounds Welsh

What people want to do with a warm, soft, forgiving loaf in the privacy of their own homes is a matter for them and their conscience. They shouldn't really be boasting about it on here though.

It's easily forgiven compared to other, more heinous acts they've openly admitted to on here.

See Jonathan Franks is playing today along with Mondal, a couple of other trialists and an alternative midfield (Featherstone, Geiorge, Deverdics):

Glad I'm going now, I thought it would be all the kids.

I used to be a fan of Hawkins, but he went back a hell of a lot last season, lets hope it was just down to the way the club was at the time. As has been said, a big season for him. I think our weakness in still in midfield, would of liked to have seen a tall , good in the air, attacking midfielder in there like a Tinkler , Monkhouse or a Sweeney at his best. Not sure if last seasons midfielders Hawkins and Woods are good enough to get us into a top 2 position. There are options though, such as Deverdics and Donaldson

Munns looks up for it, good to see Laing get a goal from the back and Loach make a couple of good saves..

Think the Whitley Bay team could be a mix of players who played last night and maybe need more game time, those on the bench last night and those who never figured last night, for example he might give Blair and Loach another run out, don't think Harrison will send a weak or reserve team.

Rhys Oates has been played out of position since he got here. The odd time he's been up front he's scored.

Players in their preferred positions, novel idea I know.

I may have to sit on the naughty step here, but a local team I have a season ticket for beat Boro U23's 3-0 recently. if I mention we played our U18's keeper due to injuries and had a few other players on holiday or injured out. The Boro also played a £1million midfielder!!!!!!!! Just a cautionary tale as teams treat friendlies differently!
