Looking for somewhere central in Scotland to stay for a few days, and Dumbrton is a cheap option.

Anyone know what it's like?

It's Scotland so it's probably full of Buckfast swigging smack heads and very cold and pissing down

It depends what you're doing for the couple of days.
As a base to go onto Loch Lomond or to visit Glasgow or to go to Argyll and Bute it's not a bad place to do it from.
Otherwise it's like Peterlee with a Castle and an interesting rock outcrop in the bay.

It is a bit like Middlesbrough, better go a few miles on and stay in Helensburgh.

I don't understand why anyone would go away on holiday/ for the weekend and deliberately attempt to stay somewhere less comfortable or cheaper than home.

A bit weird innit.

I look forward to holidays and want them to be a step up from home life.

Aye - Peterlee with less class. Decent for shopping, we always stop in one the way back round cos the Morrisons is big and class, but Dumbarton is a bit of a shite hole. Theres one decentish hotel at the Glasgow end, Dumbuck I think, that does decent food apparently.

If you've kids I'd look at Stirling / Perth / Crieff for a cheapish break but there all pricey now. We went to Edinburgh a while back and it cost a fucking ton.

It's for somewhere to doss as we'll be doing day trips to Glasgow/Edinburgh/Lomond/west coast. If it's as bad as described then I'll look at shelling out a bit more.

To be fair Falkirk looked decent to me.

I am there regularly now for an hour or so.

Are her mates fit and single? Just asking for a mate like. Oh and female and attractive!

I once read this book, funny as fook. The concept is , the author goes to some of the most unfashionable places in the UK, in a clapped out Austin Maestro , and makes every effort to stay in the worst accommodation in that place. The bits on Scotland are both hilarious and depressing in equal measure. He visits Easington in the North East I seem to remember.

This better be good  and funny :happy-wavemulticolor: , as I've just spent £5.99 getting it on the kindle. :angry-tappingfoot:

If you can get a decent deal at Garfield Best Western, Stepps, it's only £3.40 rail return from there to Glasgow Queen St - cheaper than parking in the city. The Falkirk Wheel is well worth a visit

I'm confident you will like it Mr Bishop , if not feel free to blame me.

Are you confident enough to refund me twice the price?

It's actually quite a nice little town. The best place for a pint is the boating club - next door to the football ground.
