Fuck off. I have just learnt to post on my phone. God knows how to do capital letters.

The ones at the start of sentences just happen. How clever is that?

Sorry like but that's the same for every town and city on the world.

Hartlepool has its fair share

Don't know about now but at one point it had the highest number of smackheads per capita in Europe.

One place I haven't been for a long time, so can't comment. Been meaning to go last couple of years, but the moment has passed, better English cities to re-visit again imo. Like most cities across the world, the poor have been driven out of the centres, therefore the centres are full of yuppie types or ordinary people pretending that they are loaded. This is what Mr I calls progress. Smackheads are a symptom of this deliberate ideology , to cleanse city centres and make them the preserve of the rich. I very much doubt many smackheads frequent the city centre like they did in Trainspotting times during the 80s.

Actually Mr H I am against the destruction of traditional city centres. I prefer old fashioned High Streets to retail parks. I would have preferred Lynn Street to the concrete monstrosity that is Middleton Grange Shopping centre.

I'm sure you are Mr I. There are issues both Labour and Conservative supporters probably agree on, at least those who were brought up on the wrong side of the tracks or in the real world.

Come to think of it you must know a few of my family on my dad's side, they were all Horden talkers.

I know few people from Horden, as I am Blackhall born and bred. Silver spooning my mouth ? haven't a clue what that means, never come across that saying before.

I don't know if you misinterpreted my previous post Mr I,, but what I was trying to say, that yes, whatever our political persuasions, if you hail from somewhere like the colleries or Hartlepool , then you will probably realise/agree that things like the destruction of Lynn St in favour of Middleton Grange were on reflection a bad idea. We live in the real world, a northern world, a bit different from those who make all the decisions in London, regardless of what party they represent.

If you want smack heads on the street then Cardiff should be your city of choice.

Was there last week. Tonnes of cash spent on it but a junkie lying in every doorway.

And I mean every doorway.

Also went to Birmingham.

All I can say is I hated the place.

Its the same in every city in the world ( except Havana ) the ordinary folk driven out to make way for yuppies. Trump was one of the first to do this in New York in the 1980s, it is now a soulless godforsaken place taken over by the rich, as is London to a lesser extent, things will only get worse. If we allow the Capitalists to continue the same will happen to Newcastle and York, ordinary people free zones. The homeless and drug users then flock to these places as that is where the only money is to be found, though there is not much chance of the greed barstewards who live and work in the city centres sparing buddy a dime.

Edinburgh is indeed superb.

If you get bored of the touristy centre bit, go down Leith Walk. Loads of proper stuff down there, including a superb chippy.

Our lass lived there for a few years, so she knows all the short cuts through the closes in the old town. It's like a proper rabbit warren.

I've read too many Irvine Welsh books, to consider going down Leith Walk anytime soon. Sure its not as bad now though.

It's fine. A couple of the pubs are grotty pub it's no better or worse than Hartlepool.

We went there a couple of years ago and stopped in a youth hostel on Leith Walk. Cheap as you like and no chew.

the sixties had a lot to answer for. if it was old it was no good therefore you got a middleton grange in most towns in the country. same with older housing that was termed slums at the time. knocked em down, built hise rise flats or ticky tacky houses. wouldn,t have happened nowadays as people seem to be more savvy about preserving what little past some towns still have. loads of older housing have been re furbed in east lancashire towns. always get a lump in my throat when i drive down lynn street and then see the old co-op building. i know its my childhood past but when i show my partner the old photo,s of the town she,s in agreement with me. swinging sixties my a...

It was Billog that set the rot in. After their new shopping centre everyone in the area wanted one. The public that is, not the councillors.

Edinburgh does have lots of good places to go, and the festival is really worth going to as there's so much on. In fact, I love staying here that much that we're in Hartlepool for my younger brothers Stag weekend at the end of the month ;-)
