I go to Dyce in Aberdeen a fair bit.

Always seems dark, gloomy and depressing to me.

Generally just eat and drink in the hotel like so cant offer much help!

I find the people all extremely friendly to be honest but then I am a likeable person.

I've been a few times, Mutts. I like the place. Pittodrie is a tidy ground. If you are going for a weekend, I would suggest the train as it is a helluva drive.

Had a few days work up there last summer. Looked a nice and vibrant place to me, a smaller version of Liverpool. You could sense its not having the best of times at the moment though , since the Oil and Gas slump. Imagine it would of been a lot different 10 years ago.

Decent little place and a tidy ground. If you are to stay up there, somewhere like the Jury's in Union Square. Union Square is a mini metro centre, but attached to train station.

When walking to the ground, there is no boozers within a mile of the ground. In fact as you walk past the last pub, there was a sign outside saying last pub to Pittodrie, 1 mile to go

As a Poolie residing up here full time since the early nineties I can see & understand the various sentiments, when the sun shines (not a lot !) it looks okay but otherwise can give a real impression of being dull & dreary, grey and un-inviting. The economy up here has taken a dive and along with it whatever "vibrancy" there was has dipped. As far as Pittodrie goes, to us Poolies it is a culture shock for atmosphere, unless they are playing Celtic or Rangers it is an eerily quiet place to be, their crowds average around 10-13k for all other games and while the ground itself is quite tidy I would say our crowds generate more noise no problem. Can't vouch for nights out these days, I live out of town but as ever, the main drag has plenty of the usual types of options.

I worked up there a bit, the people were really friendly but as tREE said always seems dark and gloomy. A place to go to only if you have to imo.

First night I was there , it was raining like it was here this morning, cats and dogs. We stayed at the Ibis hotel, which was very nice for a budget hotel, right in the middle of the city centre as well.

Used to dig up there en route to Shetlands with werk. The travellodge near the airport is ok as well and should be cheap since the oil and gas slump

To honest I would only consider flying up there - went on the train once and my arse was numb for a number of days

The daft 16 seater plane from Durham is awful but still preferable over drving or train like.

Always pass a sweet tub around which is the only highlight.

I really like it. Actually stopped there for some of me honeymoon. Nice people, enough decent pubs and restaurants, and there is also a beach as well, which never seems to get mentioned.

Generally around £160-£180 I think. I used to get the red eye flight.

Weirdo.

A turnip I get, but a cabbage is just wrong.

Best thing about Aberdeen is the A90 South. I remember working up there one time in particular 2002 World Cup year. I sussed out a local boozer on the way back to my digs to watch england v Nigeria I think, anyway outside the boozer a sandwich board had 'toot your horn if you hate the english'. Needless to say I watched the game with my England shirt on in my room with the door locked as I did hear later that English lads had been filled in in union street. Also later the office had Denmark posters covering all the walls and on the Friday lunchtime on my way home never seen so many Brazil shirts, car doors locked and windows closed
