Bacon Grill, the Saturday night treat for the working class in the 70s, it was lush. Its still around now, but tastes or looks nothing like it used to, its just a load of cheap congealed mush now.

I once got a whole packet of Blue Ribands that were solid chocolate. No wafer. Sent them a chuntering letter with a photo, got a BOX of Blue Ribands sent Special Delivery (16 packets in box!) and a tenner Voucher for...Blue Ribands.

If you're ever passing Sedgefield, No.4 Front Street tearooms and bakery does a lush corned beef slice.

I can't have them now because of gluten intolerance but a corned beef slice and ketchup, followed by a strawberry tart (their sweet stuff is very good too) was a proper tea!

When did Gluten Intolerance become a thing? Sure there was no such thing as a kid, most allergies didn't exist either.

So basically, they've had a test for coeliac disease since the 1990s. Very bad stuff happens to coeliacs if they carry on eating gluten after they are diagnosed, so I guess before the 1990s they mostly just got ill and died prematurely. My coeliac got diagnosed because a symptom showed up on a routine blood test - I'd become severely anaemic.

You're probably picking up on the fact that gluten-free food has become an (expensive) fad for loads of non-coeliacs. Mostly women who say that bread and cakes make them feel 'bloated.'

PEK n Brown sauce is one of my favourite sandwiches of all time. Spam was lurvely, BUT has changed its recipe and is too similar to PEK now. I still enjoy Luncheon Meat Sandwiches,or Luncheon Meat chopped into chunks and placed in a Pasta Salad. I used to like Bacon Grill, however recentlyish bought some and didn't enjoy it.

Corned beef is lush. Has to be Princes though.

If I wasn't buying a pack of 10 and box of matches with my quid dinner money I sometimes got a luncheon meat sandwich with brown sauce....loved it as a kid, never had it since.
