I've been tasked with doing the playlist for my 9 year old's birthday party. It's got all the usual Little Mix and One Direction and stuff in it, but I'm trying to get something a bit more exciting in there. Our lass is adamant that I can't put in anything that's remotely racy, but up to now I've got Pigbag and 'Nothing can stop us' by St Etienne in there.

Can anyone recommend anything that is upbeat and kids are likely to like even if they've not heard it? That doesn't feature swearing or references to oral sex or shooting people?

Good shout, but if I remember right it has something about smacking hoes in it. And it's not about garden tools.

Aye, a couple of iffy lyrics... but my kids love jumping around as that's what they pick up on.

I'm sure there is a slightly dubbed version on YouTube.

Barbie Girl - Aqua
Saturday Night - Wigfield (though you'll have to teach em the dance)

Anything by Steps or S Club 7 or the Venga Boys.

All catchy (yes cheesy) tunes kids can move around too!

However Mr PIN if any Jedward is played then there will be a lynch Mob on route pronto! Capice?

Only songs I remember from childhood parties were stuff by Ace of Base and Star Trekkin (The Firm?)

Was never invited to many like.

Get Spotify, search Kids party and hit play. Sorted.

Just Googled "today's most popular music genres for kids" and got this:

Heavy Metal
Rock'n'Roll
Hard Rock
Alternative
Classical
Pop
Punk Rock
Blues
Jazz
Thrash Metal

You all need to keep up.

In any case, when kids hear words from today's music they all come out as Lady Mondegreens. So forget the "nothing racy" requirement.
