Nice to see Foley and Holden make it to Wembley Vase Final with South Shields and nearly 4000 at the game, staggering.

Not that staggering South Shields is a big enough place to support a Football League club, in fact didn't they used to be one way back?

They are the original South Shields in the same way as Trigger only used one broom on Only Fools then.

Good luck to them, North East teams have a lot of joy in the Vase recently, North Shield won it 2015 and Whitley Bay have won 4 times since 2000, plus Spennymoor and Morpeth have won it in the millennium.

I didn't say they were just that it's a big enough place to support a Football League club. I know I've read they are targeting at least Confetence football and a new 5-10,000 stadium.

They have the catchment area and enough disillusioned Mags and Mackems to reel in. I noticed they get bigger crowds than Gateshead and Darlo already and that is in the Nortern League.

I think Scotty Fenwick deserves a mention as well as he scored the winning penalty in extra time for York against Lincoln in the Trophy semi on Saturday so he'll be playing at Wembley too.

South Shields were the original Wimbledon and Gateshead the original MK Dons.
We had eight NE league teams at the time (though not necessarily all 8 at the same moment), so who were they?
