When they swarm in their thousands to do their synchronised aerial ballet, it is a totally, utterly gobsmacking sight. It certainly eclipses anything the red arrows can do.

I was on my way out of the house at about 4 am the other week and a fairly fat badger climbed out of the canal and ran up the road right past me. I thought they were meant to run away from humans not charge past.

I've never seen a badger in the wild!!!!

And I've never felt a badger's arse to see if it's really rough.

Anyway, that reminds me. I looked out of the window a few weeks ago and saw a hedgehog strolling down the street. I'd always thought they were shy creatures too, like, er, badgers.

Drove through Formby near Liverpool on Tuesday and while waiting at the lights took a picture of one whining and rattling past.

There's loads live near me as they're always getting killed by cars on the A52 (which has the superb alternative name of Brian Clough Way). Never seen one in the wild though.

The best wild animal I've seen was when getting a taxi to east midlands airport early one morning, and the taxi driver took a short cut down a back road. A barn owl flew alongside the taxi for ages.

Apparently they do it as the oncoming vehicle makes the mice and voles scarper and easier to catch. When my grandad was on 6-2 at ICI he said there was one which used to do it every morning.

I've seen one live badger, a couple of years ago just outside Ashbourne. It was about 7 o'clock on a summer evening, it just lolloped across the road in front of me, quite a big bugger as well. Beautiful creatures and probably one of the most unfairly persecuted animals in Britain.

Seen a fox around Seaton Holy Trinity a few times ..also on the beach ..Seen a few badgers but they're always laid by the side of the road
