Just seen this on the news. The councillor interviewed didn't come across as bright, only marginally better than the general public. They can't have been selected at random.

Some horrendous proposals most of which I can't see the relevance of. At least the fish one could get some sponsorship from The Almighty Cod.
One glaring omission in my eyes is a git big Hart statue.

I've voted for the fish cos....err....it's a fish and it has more to do with Hartlepool/Seaton than a Samurai Warrior!!!!

I can't see any bringing any interested folk in. The light up globe thing most likely to be an attraction at night time but I can just imagine the local youth congregating around it and putting people off.

Call me a cynic but I think the anvil should win because it is the one that will take the longest to destroy by vandals.

Was he the best they could find, he spoke like one of the Hartlepool Bra Men on Reeves and Mortimer years ago. There must be a link on YouTube .
For what it's worth, I loved the fisherman's head sculpture..... admittedly the cod is in the sea, but it took a poolie in a boat to go and get it, the fish didn't volunteer their services to be eaten.
Regarding tourists being attracted, get something decent and it might make the world a bit more agreeable, but our council do have a shit record with culture .... remember when they fell for coughing up for the balls roundabout, tourists would turn up to see the piece by the world famous sculpture..... They didn't.

p.s. Why not free the watcher from its 'prison' and bang him on the sea front looking out to sea as was intended all those tears ago.

You have to be impressed by somebody who says this:

As an artistic focal point the statue would symbolize the ORIGO of a space-time coordinate system as an ARMILLARY like composition of circular objects, and also functioning as a sun dial and showing the directions to the Cardinals.

And then submits what looks like Pools' badge with a big cog rammed into it. Bullshit on a level not seen since Gary Coxall last explained a winding up order.

I'll be honest I didn't read about any of the submissions but if the artist believes what they've said they're as insane as all the best artists in history! If not, like you say, they're better with words than they are art!

Isn't that the Warrior in the background?

Personally I'd vote for the two figures, it comes across as at least some thought gone into it and reminds me a bit of one or two or Gormley's works (Filter especially).

I like no 8, the imaginary boat. If they don't use that one, I might ask if I can have it.

when I saw photo it was a real trip down memory lane.

I also remember the seacoal lads on the beach tearing about in them wagons, for the best pitch from seacoal on that tide , nevermind (MMA) Mixed Martial Arts, you try encroaching on their pile of sea coal, they would make MMA lot look like 5 year olds having a fight.
