If they had any legs to start with a bid could be more likely now as they've just sold a player to Everton for £7.5 million.

Thomas also has a minimum release clause, not sure of the value mind.

The player they sold was a left winger funnily enough.

I see rumours that Wyke has a £400k buy out clause on hsi contract and Preston are apparently interested

Rather have Hugill myself like.

He always looked like a player with potential obviously our terrace experts wrote him off as shite because he didn't score 20 a season when he was 19. I said at the time I'd have signed him. I think I read the other day he's scored 16 this season already. Hugill is doing very well at Championship level as well.

When released by Boro Carlisle offered him the best terms. Similar to Danny Graham a few years ago got offered better terms than Pools.

Suited to Carlisle as they just lump the ball about. If Preston play/plan to play this way then maybe he will do a job.

We could have signed him long before he was released by the Boro we had him for long periods over two separate seasons.

The BBC are saying £11.5 million Sky/TalkSPORT (where I heard it) are saying £7.5 million so if Charlton come in we'll go BBC!

It probably was £7.5 mil up front as with most big money moves, particularly for youngsters.
A fraction of that would allow poor kids in Hartlepool to have a water slide at the new leisure centre and provide duck feather pillows for those fortunate enough to holiday in Hartlepool at the new Millhouse hotel.

No, that's just one of the bus stops, that's how big the project is. They estimate that over the next ten years 98.9% of all the worlds concrete will be needed in Hartlepool to build the New Atlantis development. I'm so excited I can't sleep.

You're excited Snowy???!!!!!

Imagine how the smackheads who live above the Royal and assorted take aways on Church St will feel when they wake up one day and think they've moved to California.

They won't know whether to laugh or shoot up some more.

This could literally twist their melons man

Pools have had a poor idea on how to run a lower league team for a while now.

When we sold baldwin, we should of used as much of the fee as possible to buy burgess. With the intention of selling him for profit, which probably could of been used to sign Jackson, and so on.

There's been a few players recently who while not exactly outstanding for us, had potential and a decent sell on prospect

Gerrway, small football clubs getting by selling players for profit?! That's utter tosh, they need to be selling houses and hotel rooms.

IOR paid it off the huge debt they amassed at £1m a season that definitely existed.

Boro were never going to let Jackson and Burgess go for nothing . As you say it was obvious to everybody that these two were good enough to play above Pools level and I believe Boro got about £500000 for each of them so let's be honest we never had a chance of signing them.
As far as Wyke is concerned he may well have shown promise but it is a gamble at our level and hindsight is a wonderful thing. Just think 2 yrs ago Walker looked the most promising player I had seen at Pools and he has turned out to have flopped.
The thing is Boro can afford to give youngsters like Wyke,Dolan,Williams .four year contracts on three and four thousand a week and when they do not come off sell them on. A

Half a million each, are you sure!? You do have a point about neither being out of contract and the fees involved meant signing either was unlikely but I think your figures are ever so slightly wide of the mark!? Take a zero off maybe.

Wyke was hardly a gamble he was a free transfer in the same way hundreds of other young players are every summer the difference being we had seen loads of him and knew he could play.

T. A

Then there's Scott Harrison - good loan spell (though always more of a rough diamond than Burgess or Jackson), rubbish last season, looking like a decent centre half again in the last few games.

According to Hignett, efforts were made to sign Adam Jackson on a permanent deal. Was that ever a serious possibility? Does he have an agent? What really went on behind the scenes? He's playing regularly in the Championship now, and good luck to him.

Yes I have researched and I was way out with the Burgess and Jackson fees. It looks like Burgess did go for about 50k but then £170k to Portsmouth but Jackson it would appear went to Barnsley for £200k. Still way, way. out of our reach.
I must admit however I believed Wyke would have been a gamble and of course with hindsight it's easy. How many others have you thought would have made the grade then dropped to the Northern League.

But it would of all been started by buying burgess aftwr sold baldwin for 500k. Like said the club has been piss poor at running properly for years and yet it only looks like getting worse.

Gambling on Wyke could of went wrong cos fell into northern league? And what's wrong with that? It's what nearly every lower league club does and sometimes it works, majority of time it doesn't. You aim to develop and sell players, and then invest a percentage back into a replacement with the aim of selling the replacement or having a player who is a good enough player for your own level

Sounds dead easy. That's what they all try to do. The manager takes a gamble sometimes it works out sometimes they do not. Remember Boro took a gamble and it did not work out Wyke did not make it at their level. What manager has released a player and has gone on to do well?
