If it was for good reason then fair enough but I'd be interested to know.

I wouldn't have deleted it for that reason, I'd leave them for everybody to see. Those views were also in the minority, thankfully.

It was fuck all. Just some extreme opinions, but opinions nontheless.

Are we saying now that some opinions are more valid than others?

Thats not what this board was built on.

When I posted this it was to remember those in Nice and to send our thoughts to those affected by the events.

We know what happened next.

So I will say again, thoughts to those in Nice.

Whether you agree with someone or otherwise the whole ethos of this board from day one was one of non censorship unless it stepped over legal boundaries. I happen to say what I think and I know that a lot agree but won't say so publically.

I have looked at the moderators log so I know who deleted it, clearly not me!. I do however find it ironic that someone who proports to believe in liberal values and the rest of the left wing guff ( in my view only) is happy to deny free speech when issued with a delete button.

Voltaire corrected: "I will defend to the death your right to say it as long as I agree with you"

That was exactly why I tried to refrain from replying once the arguments started. Not sure if I did in the end as last night is a bit scotchy.

Don't be daft, man. Of course some opinions are more valid than others : those with more facts on their side are more valid.

If an opinion rests on a prejudice, and into the bargain can incite hostility between people and groups, it should be an 'opinion' you don't voice.

That said, I don't agree the thread ought to have been deleted either.

We still have a certain amount of free speech in this country and should use it. Comments that might be construed as racist are one thing; asking questions about the running of a business and mooting potential concerns is reasonable as long as they are qualified by the acknowledgement that they might not be the case.

If something isn't defamatory it isn't libelous, though admittedly this

http://www.senseaboutscience.org/data/f ... _Wales.pdf

isn't massively reassuring!

Disagree, 5 facts v 4 facts is irrelevant, depends who says a fact is a fact.
I prefer my conscience, we all know when something is wrong even though we may ignore it.

From what I gather, what Mr I wrote might be too close to the truth for comfort, and so deleted it.

If you read it prior to deletion then draw your own conclusions.

But he's said above that he'd die to defend free speech (or at least he used a quote to that effect). Has he changed his mind? Was the quote a load of shite? Is he a being hypocritical? Or has he lost his nerve? We need answers.

Has it got leather patches on the elbows? And do you wear it while your sat in your study with a nice cup of herbal tea, perusing the morning star and the guardian whilst listening to an Owen Jones podcast or Radio 4?

Sure it often depends on who 'says it's a fact'. But that's part of the point, isn't it.
If someone says something is a fact, you've a right to expect him to back it up. If he can't, as was the case in the matter I think we're both talking about, it's definitely not a fact. Especially when the person also ignores all the counter-evidence.......

If there was evidence identifying a burglar who broke into your house, you wouldn't say: oh well, let him off. It depends who says a fact is a fact.

Utter nonsense.

My point is that the belief that somehow each attack has no bearing to the ideology is demonstrably stupid and provable. You want facts? All of the below are Islamic attacks against people who had done them no harm.

Feel free to come back with what X or Y did or that the Iraq war is to blame and there may be some modicum of truth in that but it will not take away the fact that the data below remains true and the list will continue to grow at a pace.

Surely you don't to go into all this again?

No-one is arguing that there haven't been many attacks in the world which have been instigated by Islamic terrorists. So why have you bothered to produce evidence that there have been such attacks?

You said that there was no evidence, I'm just proving that there is.

Do you have the same data for non Islam related attacks?

Can we have it broken down by "caused by western governments interfering for their own benefit" please?

Oh, it's just the full list.

Please could you redo it.

I've broken it down into list of people who were killed and had any involvement in the cause that the specific nutter carried out his attack on behalf of. I came up with zero.

No, what was asked for was evidence for statements like:

1. All (or most) Muslims support Islam terrorism.

2. In the Koran, there are incitements to kill non-believers, therefore Muslims all believe that this is what they should do.

Where is the evidence for either of these opinions (both of which you've stated several times).
Listing a heap of Islamic terrorist incidents, isn't evidence for either. It is only evidence that a heap of Islamic terrorist incidents have occurred.

Not understanding what counts as evidence is very dangerous. It can lead to violence against innocent people. You have to say what your evidence is for (1) and (2), not simply give evidence for Islamist terrorist attacks.

Show me where I said this

2. In the Koran, there are incitements to kill non-believers, therefore Muslims all believe that this is what they should do.
I have never said all

Your entire post is based on two statements that I have never made.

Well, that is just not true, I'm afraid. I remember them and others will.

How could the Nice thread possibly have been a dispute about what you're now claiming, when no-one at all ever asked for proof that ISIS-related atrocities had occurred? I distinctly recall your making the comment about 'what all Muslims would answer', and Fatman replying :"You don't know what they would answer. That's the point"

Why don't you do the decent thing and say you no longer believe what you once did, if that's true? Everyone makes mistakes after all.

You previously stated that there were far more Muslim extremists than people on here would give credence to. How many do you think there are and have you got evidence to back that up.

You also cherry picked a quote from the Qur'an on the previous Nice thread.

I'm not claiming anything, you are misrepresenting what I have said. You're not the first.

For example:

I said ' A majority of uk Muslims would support Britain being a islamic state under sharia law'
Twisted version: Most UK muslims support Islamic state.

Implied? Subjective accusations again. No, I have not said that, I have said that they support Britain being an Islamic state, not to be confused with 'islamic state'

I would have preferred similar passages from many of the other religious texts which also espouse violence toward non believers.

What evidence do you have that a majority of Muslims would like the UK to be an Islamic state under Sharia Law?

Mr I
1) could you please make your list more readable by transposing it onto an Excel spreadsheet, and ensure the Macro's and Googlebumps are set correctly so the Data is legible! Then we can all have an unreasoned argument!
2) Nothing is a fact in the Interweb unless it is a (highlighted) FACT. FACT!!!

How do you fancy this statement:

100'000 British Muslims believe that Suicide bombing is a justified way to fight perceived political issues and sympathise with Jihadi attacks.

Not my words, the words of this

That survey has been heavily criticised as it was poorly implemented and s

That survey also disputes your theory that "A majority of uk Muslims would support Britain being a islamic state under sharia law"... According to that survey only 23% of British Muslims would support the introduction of Sharia law.

Plus those who wouldn't oppose it.

What about the 100'000, don't they matter and of course it would be heavily criticised, it doesn't fit in with the accepted view.
