And its no surprise it involves england fans.

It seems they werent entirely to blame though.

But they have admitted to chanting such intelligent things like ISIS where are you. And being extremely drunk.

Really? And theres me thinking they were there for the football. All along it was anti ISIS rally.

We are really incapable of just enjoying football arent we. Proud as fuck.

I bet our rugby union fans can out drink our football drinkers and I bet they never once end up with chew or sir around singing songs about terrorists. Is the iQ of the average football fan really that much lower?

Was waiting for the Rugby comparison... saw a game recently where players were attacking fans in the stands at a rugby game. Classy...

Not excusing what's happened in France mind, I just think dickheads are dickheads regardless of which sport they follow. I will say that police think England fans are a trophy in these tournaments. If it was another countries fans the police would remove the few people causing trouble and be done with it. With England the police dive in en masse, indiscriminately baton charging and then wonder why the whole lot turn against them.

Wouldn't surprise me if the press were slipping them backhanders to do it if I'm honest.

If ever there was a time to be at one with the police and security forces it was this year.

Utter bellends, ban the lot of them and that band while they are at it.

Just read this quote:

‘They were baiting us, and then attacked,’ said one fan from Leeds, who asked to be named solely as Simon.
‘None of the England fans were doing anything wrong – a few of us had a bit much to drink, but that was all.
‘Suddenly a French gang appeared and started attacking us, and throwing stuff. We had to defend ourselves, and then the police showed up.’

Granted it's a Leeds fan and it's from the Daily Mail but having heard stories from people who were in Marseille in 1998 it's exactly the same scenario.

No doubt this is correct, but is beyond english football supporters to know these things, and not gather enmasse in pubs, having dubious singalongs, and get hammered?

It is a football tournament not a beano to Blackpool for a stag do.

Oh, and wearing their England uniforms at all times, just to make everyone entirely aware of who they are.

Have to agree with the Colonel. Marseille is a rough place and if England fans gather in big groups and behave in a way that is seen as aggressive over here they're likely to get attacked by local arseholes. Then you can add the CRS who only exist to attack people in large groups and love to fire tear gas whenever they get the chance.

If England fans don't accept that a load of you getting pissed and chanting at/harassing local people is seen as doing something wrong there'll be a lot more bother to come. Even though Marseille isn't that far I didn't get tickets because I can't be arsed with getting caught up in it and didn't want my son to witness it first hand. (Plus I didn't even know they were playing)

All fans of the same nation congregate together at major tournaments, no doubt England have a minority of dickheads but seems like an over top Police reaction to me.

ISIS said they were going to attack people specifically in Marseille so don't see how English fans singing that is a problem?

Its no different to Pools singing about George Reynolds watch when he got it nicked in Spain.

The Daily Mail already had this story written before anything happened last night and gullible people will swallow it hook, line and sinker.

i cant understand singing/chanting while in a pub/walking the streets. Do they think they look cool?

You're right that all fans congregate but the old reputation of English fans means that when they do it it is seen differently. Partly because there is a culture of taunting anybody nearby. In England this gets dismissed as basically harmless but in most countries it looks and sounds aggressive.

Singing about ISIS in a city with a large North African Muslim community, in a country that recently suffered major terrorist attacks is just plain stupid. Add in the fact that they're doing it in a language that most of the local population don't speak and the likelihood of causing offence or provoking trouble is obvious.

One thing that England fans need to understand is that for the section of the police involved this isn't over the top, it's just what they do.

Think you're also right about the Mail being desperate for this to happen though.

Part of the hosting a major tournament is being able to Police it correctly surely?

It all sounds like handbags anyway.

I see where the song might have caused offence but the media love hyping it up.

If it's all about the policing the proof will be at the end of the tournament when we see how many other countries fans and matches have bother.

If I was being attacked I would welcome the police coming to protect me. I wouldn't keep chanting in their faces or throwing chairs through windows. Having seen the footage on news I find it embarrassing

Judging by the way they are dressed I don't think cool is on their agenda. I think its more about looking hard.

Also if they really want to go toe to toe with Islamic State, why don't they go to Syria. sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Thing is, they don't look hard though, they look pathetic, bald heeds, pot bellies and shorts, t-shirt and trainers, that is never a good look on a 40+ year old bloke.

I used to go to the odd England home and away game when I was younger, but got sick of all that right wing, jingoistic sh*t, No Surrender songs and God Save the scrounger etc

Don't want to derail the thread but back to the band saw a funny statement about that a while back (hope it wasn't on here and I'm just repeating it :)

I think the band are already effectively banned because the FA cocked up the paperwork needed to get them in. It is a bit worrying that they can appeal but hopefully it is too late and they just have to wander around fanzones with some kazoos.

Thank god! The tournament wouldn't have been the same without them covering the great escape 88 times a game!

I cant believe anyone would say singing songs about ISIS or the IRA is in anyway understandable, and what should be a firendly atmosphere at a magnificent tournament.

I wish all of these pissed up dickheads would just fuck off somewhere else, and let the football be the only topic of conversation in town.

Ihonestly believe a big percentage of them actually believe they are representing their country in the hooligan championships.

France should be the place every football in Europe should want to be at right now. People should be proud to be htere, like they are at the Olympics.

Instead it ends up being a tribal bloodbath, or something akin to a war zone with hard english fans smashing windows and swearing at women and children.

Can think of anywhere I would less like to be. Which is truly shameful.

And watch closely on TV when the camre pans around the crowd, to see just how many england "fans" are watching and goading other fans, rather than watch the match. Its the most embarrssing thing ever.

To be fair a chant of "Isis Isis where are you?" is going to go completely over the heads of nearly every non-English speaker in the world.

Yep they really are fucking retarded the english supporters. How fhe fuck do they get passports.

Best ones though are the ones dressed in england shirts shorts and flip flops offering advice to the french police. Who the fuck do those daft not nice people think they are?

I really hope the police rip into the embarrassing bastards.

Throw them out of the competition then the F.A. might do some thing about it instead of sitting on their butts in their 5 Star plus Hotel. The so called 'fans'/Little Englanders are an embarrassment to their country, they do it at every competition, no mention of Wales,N.I or Eire fans fighting ?

Listened the Officer in Charge of Policing Yesterday Morning who happens to be an Ulsterman. He basically said it more posturing than anything else. Also they had no real evidence of who caused it yet. I suspect Sky are praying for it to "kick off" so they can report it on 24/7 propaganda channel but don't let that stop you all revving up the outrage moped.

Really?

The extensive footage shown on iTV not sky must have been made up.

And grown men that go round posturing should be shot on sight for being thick twats.

There are a lot of them as well just posturing.

This is a spoting event isnt it?

The no real evidence of who caused the trouble.
More like the police russians and locals who never get the blame.
Dont get me wrong me not defending the small minority of english hooligans.

But as usual the sky press blow it out of proportion and will turn a blind eye to other teams fans who misbehave.

If singing in pubs provokes trouble then lets ban the karaoke and everybody who sings WONDERWALL! refred

Of course, the England fan who was injured after being filled in and hit over the head with a chair did that to himself, it wasn't the local Marseille hooligans as there isn't any local Marseille hooligans of course, and even if there was they wouldn't go looking for trouble, they would just sit peacefully outside the cafes with coffee and a croissant. That other fan who was beat up on his own by several brave Russian fans then thrown into a harbour must have beaten himself and thrown himself into the water I guess because Russian fans wouldn't do that as all the trouble makers out there are obviously England fans.

Just seen a video of a big group of them singing that 10 German bombers song. I just don't get the mindset of these blokes, let's keep singing songs about a war that started 71 years ago.

Got a couple of mates over there, both saying a couple of locals get in there, throw a few punches at England fans then the police are getting them back out again. A couple of the videos kicking about even show this happening.

Fair enough don't get involved and don't be a dickhead but once again this is being orchestrated by the police and the press. I'm not saying it wouldn't kick off if this wasn't happening but it certainly doesn't help.

With all of the terrorism warnings, anyone with half a brain would be looking to the security forces to protect them.

To help them by behaving..........

To be true football fans.....

But these knob-heads, Russian and our own dearly beloved thugs, deserve what they may well get....and then they'll be blaming the authorities and sucking on taxpayer funds to heal them/ save them. Arseh*les.

Looks like it's "others " causing it ..Even the videos show it.

Ive been all over Europe in the past watching England and the treatment of the police in every country has been disgusting

ive been stood in a group of a dozen of us talking to a plain clothed cop in Rome when a riot van pulls up and out leaps fully rioted up cops smashing drinks out of our hands shoving us all about not even the cop we where talking to could do anything.

Ive come out the ground in Albania to walk to the hotel literally up the road to be met by a wall of riot cops shoving everyone on to a line of waiting buses to take everyone to the airport.

Ive also saeen how easy a mini riot can kick off I was sat having a bear in a busy street in Zurich where loads of café/bars where full of English fans and not one bit of bother when a lad who looked like a turk flung a glass landing near us cutting a young kids leg who was walking past with his mother and then the place went up which lasted all night.

The thing I noticed on theses trips the day after the game a club war would start amongst fans usually the cockney fans going round giving it large

I've heard the Swiss will turn a blind eye to lots of things, but I thought even they would draw the line at bestiality.
