Rotherham we drew 0-0 think it was 1992, I know it was one of the first games of the season though

This match at Colchester is the first one I can remember for certain, I was in the RAF at the time stationed near Stowmarket in Suffolk.

But I'm sure I went to a match at Lincoln, when I did my basic training at RAF Swinderby, which was in between Newark and Lincoln, in late '71. But it doesn't tie in with Mad John records. Unless it was only a Lincoln v Another Utd. Have this memory of the ground being a series of advertising hoardings. confised

Yeah had to be Darlo for me too in our first promotion season.

Exceptionally John Gill was not in the team, maybe through injury maybe through suspension. So he made sure he stood where he could say hello with his trademark wink to all the arriving Pools supporters. Top guy and Poolie legend.

We won, needless to say, making it two wins against them in the same week.

Aldershot in 1976/77 but have absolutely no memory of the game.

My first away game on my own should have been Northampton 1984/85 (I think), the year they were promoted.

I was on half-term and staying with my grand-parents in Hartlepol. Someone in the mail was running a coach to the game but I needed to take a £5 deposit to his house. Anyway, I turned up and the guy who came to the door had 2 black eyes, basically he'd really been done over.

Not ashamed to admit it, but it terrified me and I even had a nightmare before the match thinking that I was going on a coach full of thugs and I was going to end up getting beaten up. Luckily, the game was called off and so I never went.

The guy (don't know his name but am sure you will all know him), was one of the Engineers crowd, used to be a skinhead (well he still is.......)Mark somebody?
Over the years, I have seen him all over the Country watching Pools and say hi to him but if only he knew what my first memory of him was!

York City away in the FA Cup, late 80s. Finished 0-0. Went with my mate and his dad, afterwards we went in the Supporters club, where a few of the Pools players turned up. I was surprised by the amount they drank and smoked, I seem to remember John Tinkler chain-smoking.

Think it was 1961 - Fulham v Hartlepools United 3rd round of the FA Cup, I were just a lad - my old man took me. Lost 3-1, Fulham were then in the 1st division (the then equivilent to the Premiership). Harry Godbold became my hero for a while.

Cannot remember but I think it was Sheffield United 1981-2 we drew 1-1 when I was at University in Sheffield. John Bird goal from a corner!

Kevin Johnson in midfield, Billy Ayre at centre rarf and burbly Bob and Keith Houchen up front, Linacre and Hampton on the wing - we were a good team that season.

Talking about standing in the 'Tinshed', I was in there, along with a Sunderland supporting mate, the day Darlo got relegated to the Conference. Oh how we laughed!!!! The final place was between them and Colchester, who beat them on the day to relegate them. The Darlo fans were too heartbroken to notice how much we were celebrating their demise.
