He was placed on the sex register for tickling young boy

BRITAIN'S Got Talent contestant Ricky Bates was slung off the show after it was revealed he was on the sex offenders' register.

Bates, left, was seen by nearly eight million viewers on Wednesday as he did George Formby and Louis Armstrong impersonations.

Judges couldn't agree over whether the 27-year-old, who accompanies himself on an organ, was terrible or brilliant.

He was voted through to the semi-finals and scheduled to appear on last night's programme.

But on Thursday, show bosses discovered the Blackpool-born entertainer had been convicted of indecent assault after a police officer saw him on TV and rang in.

Three years ago, he was convicted in court after tickling the feet of a 14-year-old boy.

The judge placed him on the register, from which he is due to be removed next month.

A show spokesman said: "Allegations came to light and we spoke to Ricky about them. In consultation with us, he chose to withdraw from the competition."

Bates initially tried to claim the had pulled out because of a hand injury.

But last night, he admitted: "I can't hide it. I am on the register."

In auditions, Simon Cowell slammed Ricky, while Piers Morgan thought he was brilliant.

Cowell branded him "the worst act I've seen... the necklace, the suit, the horrific organ".

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "One of our officers contacted the programme as a result of seeing this man on TV as we thought it prudent to do so."
