Was this from meeting last night Joe, any mention of going down to two divsions?

I'm not sure I wasn't there personally just what I heard from somebody who went.

If things keep going the way they do the league will need more than 1 new team next year.

We played Stranton yesterday who only had 7 men. 4 nil up obviously n a man goes down injured to get the game called off, it'll be replayed which sticks in the throat a bit.

Rovers only had 7 men against 10 men avenue, they were losing 3-2 n done the same thing.

Teams are dying on their Arse, rovers normally have about 10 on the bench.

How long had you played when they went down to 6 Yubep? Do they definitely have to be replayed as they down on FA website as results?

We'd played about 55 minutes. Cooper says you need to play 70 for the result to stand.

I sent the result in as it was when the game finished.

For me if a game is abondoned for a genuine reason, such as injury or something like that. Then I'm all for a reply.

But if a team intentionally gets a game called off in this way, bit like sheff united all them years ago, then the result should stand as it was.

We shared a changing room with Avenue yesterday and they were ringing about but with no joy, some lad didn't turn up as he was decorating his house and couldn't spare 2 hours. Very surprised at Rovers though, they usually have ball boys, reserve physio's and assistant water boys. Years ago you could probably turn up with a pair of boots and get a game for any team without registering.

That happened to us a couple of seasons ago mate, only 6 players turned up for Pot House and and we had 16, the game couldn't be played, so the game got replayed and we got beat. Mind they did get 3 points deducted for not being able to complete a fixture. Not sure how yours stands.

The results should stand but got a feeling they will make them reply as it sets a president.

We've got Rovers in a semi final in a few weeks, i imagine they'll have a decent team out by then.

Id certainly agree the standard isn't what it was.

I never thought I'd see the day rovers only having 7 turn up, but I guess you can only keep 30 players happy for so long, them n the lion normally have 10 on the bench.

I see lads coming through that wouldn't get near the top teams 10 year ago.

Lads I played with alongside Aido 10 year ago toiled away in division 2 n struggled to get out of it. They'd be hands down premier league players now.

I'm not sure what the future holds for Sunday league in this town.

At greys on Sunday out of 8 pitches only 4 were in use. 2 of those games got abandoned for lack of players.

The council, the FA n the Sunday league need to get there heads together n work out how to keep Sunday league alive next year n the years after otherwise it'll be gone soon.

The league can be all
Smug sat there with 15 grand in the bank but it means fuck all if there's no teams left.

I think the culture is different amongst young lads now that 10/20/30 year ago. A Saturday night out is far more important than getting booted around a field 4/5 hours after you've gone to bed off your trolley. 4 o clock closing hours is a factor as well IMO. A town this size should have a high ranking Northern League side or even possibly an Evo-Stik level team like Whitby or Spennymoor.
We are lucky to have a squad of decent lads who aren't big drinkers who turn up every week, likewise Yubeps squad who are a great bunch of lads and a well run club.

Rovers have struggled for numbers the last few years and definitely haven't had the luxury of massive match squads of the past usually relying on dragging a few of their older stalwarts out of bed to make the numbers up. Unfortunately this is becoming the norm for the majority of teams which in turn has lead to the drop in standards.

The fact that I'm regularly playing against the same players on a Sunday morning that i started against 22 years ago just about sums the current standard up.
Despite some being very good players in the past, the amount of us overweight late 30s/ early 40 year olds still turning out in the Sunday Morning Prem just shows that the only people really interested in local footy are the older generation. Just have to look at Old Taller at Yupeb's team 53 year old and probably one of his most reliable consistent players.

In reality we wouldn't get near a game in the Prem 20 years ago but at the minute they are still some of the best players.

A proposal was made tonight for 2 divisions next season.

Due to the dwindling number of teams.

Beginning of the end??

Congrats to itb on promotion to the premier league, dont think you get as many sunday league managers who work as hard as mick, top marks fella.

We beat rovers 1-0 last night on greys, great performance, like pools away from home back in the day, shut up shop after going 1 up.

Taller was a warrior at centre half.

See Rovers have resigned from league and their cup final is going to be their last match. Another long standing team gone from the premier, really can't see much hope for local leagues in the future.

arent a few others giving it up too?

Cant say I am surprised.

If for no other reason, there appears to a couple of teams just full of thugs out to break peoples legs, and as they seem to get away with it, why would anyone want to play?

I very much doubt that's the reason at all. I think it's more like the majority of young lads today can't be bothered and find other things to do with their time, plus the people running the clubs think it's a great idea to get involved until they have to start working really hard just to get a team out or don't like getting beat every other week and can't handle it. I take my hat off to anyone who's ran a football club because unless you have never done it you really do not understand the work, time and commitment it takes to keep it going.

The new generation just don't fancy it. Early morning, mud, hard work, a pint in the pub after.

Maybe its time that leagues merged.

At Junior level now its the whole of teesside. And the same with the geriatric leagues

Why cant Sunday league be the same?

Of course there will be less teams, but the quality should go up.

And there would be enough teams to keep those that want to play interested.

Not a bad idea from The Colonel. If it got too bad and ever the league was under threat it could be worth considering joining the Peterlee Sunday league maybe. They have teams from a wider radius and further away than Hartlepool. No where near that stage yet but it is a bit worrying that a few clubs have chucked it.

Not that I play in Hartlepool but our first game is tomorrow. Won't be playing myself though, injured as always. Went for a 30 minute run the other day and the leg held up well enough but I knew about the next couple of days. Haven't kicked a ball since march time so won't probably be fit until our game in October and it won't be a full 90 then.

Can't go watch it either because I'll be travelling back from Stevenage.

Did you want this much detail mr yubep? I'm sure you did.

What town do you play in?

How old are you?

I can't remember a time I didn't play without an injury, broke an ankle last year that's still not right and done me other one this summer.

Played the best team in the town for our firstgame last week on King George's. Lost 5-1. Which wasn't a bad result as they were that good

Playing the second best team tomorrow, can't wait.

Hornsea and 43. Our side is made up of quite a few old blokes so the sides with mainly 36 yr olds tend to run rings round us. Our centre forward is well into his 50's.

I couldn't care less to be honest, I just enjoy playing when my body lets me....although chasing the game for 90 minutes really isn't much fun.

What about yourself? Old man or one of those 36 yr olds I hate chasing?

Chuffin' won 9-0! Our 50+ centre forward scored 6.

Played really well. Signed a few new players who aren't bad. Got legs in the midfield now (as opposed to the angry gobshite who was there before - every team has one doesn't it?).

No point getting fit, I won't get in the side :)
