While agreeing that the revival of the mod revival is like a rash of twattishness spreading across the pimply arse cheeks of a Lambretta owner I have to defend Weller a bit. The Jam were a bit derivative, or in the case of Taxman/Start completely derivative, but they were decent at it and very good live. Not too much twattishness there and quite a lot of youthful goodness.

The Style Council tried to be less derivative but most of the songs got way worse and massive twattishness broke out pretty regularly. Having that bloke from the Merton Parkas playing with his organ was a huge blunder.

Solo Weller has just been the remains of the Small Faces and Humble Pie put through a blender with Roger Daltrey's penis and the only excuse is that he is a daft old get but he enjoys making a living that way.

All adds up to not twattish enough to win.

Squeeze could be in with a shout for their trademarked classic, under-rated, English pop group that remind you of The Kinks without being close to as good though.
