The leauge 1 player Pools had a bid rejected for is rumoured to be Swindons 24 year old Michael Smith 6'-4" striker from Wallsend.

Could be a second bid.

Is currently on loan at Barnsley.

Scored 45 goals in 122 games a far cry from some of the strikers we have signed in recent years. Started at darlo.

Thought it was Kristian Dennis who we bid for.

Apparently another player who would like to come back to the Northeast.

Have got to say if we get this lad it will be a real surprise.

He will definitely score goals in league 2.

Kristian Dennis I believe was the player who we first bid for, but a bid was also made for a leauge 1 striker which was confirmed by the Northern Echo.

He's said he'd like a couple of strikers so every possibility we did bid for Kristian Dennis. Main problem with that one is his contractual situation. Out of contract in the summer with Stockport but is currently on a season loan to Macclesfield with no recall option and not likely to relinquish him without payment; they'd probably want paying more for him than Stockport so I can't see anything happening there.

He'd be a cracking signing. Scored most of his goals in League One.

It would be hard for a negative angle to be found for that one. Maybe most of his goals were against right backs playing centre backs, or he has a gammy eye or something.

At least Fatty Eats Roadkill would get to post again about something.

Just up the bid a bit its not as if we Skint.
A proven goalscorer instead of a gamble from non league.

Make it happen Gazza

I wouldnt call ~200k as us being flush either. Wages for a new player come out of that too.

Made about 250000 from a cup run say sign him for 70000 probobly would add 500 on the gate straight away. Who knows maybe win a few games. Club showing a bit of ambition at last sometimes spending money makes you money.

Agree BILLYPOOLIE

As for wages 2 loanies have gone back and the out of contract shite going in May will not alter the wage bill that much.

Its a new era for positivity and ambition.
Whats done is done!

And with Hawkins and Richards back on form and in the team theres 2 positions Ronnie should be happy with.
So in an unusual way Ronnie mite get the 5 positions covered he wanted within the budget.

Come on u mighty blues!

The point being that any extra cash we've earned will go towards wages as well as transfer fees.

Trying to sign 1 player on a grand a week will use up a quarter of that in 1 year. That's without a transfer fee.

It might not be a simple case of just 'upping the bid a bit'.

It's about time we spent something. We're a debt free club surely we can Spend a little. We've had to watch freebies for years. So fook it get something spent.

i don't imagine we spending full allowance on wages currently so wages could come out of our projected budget we will of submitted.

Additional income from tv and cup games I imagine is around £250k so should be able to manage to get something sorted for this smith who I think sounds like a great signing. Sure he scored a lot at afc wimbledon in what I recall as his only spell in this league. Quite young still too

If we had spent some money on the team before Saturday we would probobly be playing man u in the next round of the cup sometimes you just got to spend a little.

As exciting as new signings are, I'd rather the club wasn't putting itself in debt every time they signed a new player. That isn't a very sustainable model for success.

The club is debt free or was when new owners took over. We have had a bonus of around 250000 so signing one or two players isn't putting the club in debt. People also forget we have recently released two players. We can keep going as we are and eventually end in the conference or sign one or two decent players, win games add hundreds on the crowd and who knows maybe next year make the play offs.

I dont mean literally before the derby match I mean over last few seasons we would of probobly had a team capable of winning Saturday and that investment in the team would of probobly been made back in one game against man u.

Yep. If it had been Pools who signed Camara, Bent and Butterfield we'd probably have walked it. Unless Derby decided to play some of their first team.

Probably though? You're suggesting if we had spent a little we would most likely have beaten Derby. Most teams in the Championship are struggling to do that. It's the use of the word 'probably'.

If I had been putting the lottery on every week I probably would have won it by now...

Well with 25 minutes to go we had a great chance not bad for a team who cant beat division 2 teams.

Update:-

Swindon chairman Lee Power stated that he had turned down an offer for Michael Smith who has now returned from Barnsley where he was on loan, Michael would like to return to his native Northeast.

It is reported that Scunthorpe and Portsmouth are interested in Smith.

It is possible Ronnie Moore may switch his attention to Simeon Jackson who has just been released by Barnsley.

Carlisle have made two bids for a player who apparently wont move down a league. Could well be the same player.

For long enough pools have used the location card as a reason players won't come here but there's no reason it shouldn't be a positive. A fee if our current bunch opted to come here for being closer to home/family. Notably two of them are Carson and Magnay

If we'd have just signed a couple more players though I don't think theirs much probably about it we would have DEFINATELY beaten the the team second in the Championship and would have being playing Man United.

I blame that defeat at Oldham under John Hughes personally.

So you don't feel a stronger team couldn't of beaten derby on the day? They only rested ten players. I think you be happy pj if we were signing lads of the rec. You would claim what great signings they were.

No I don't.

Just to reiterate I literally meant every single word of that post, and was being being deadly serious.

On reflection I am putting more focus on that Oldham game to be honest and John Hughes. It is all his fault.

Anyhow, moving on -

Moore now expects to get an experienced loan striker in before Tuesday night's game at the Accies, but is still looking to bring a striker in on a permanent deal before the window closes. He's hinting that there might an improved offer from Pools on one of the players they've been knocked back on.

Nothing definite - he's described as having a long term injury along with Duckworth and Worley.

I bought a programme on Saturday and Billy was talking about his injury in his captain's column. To be honest, nothing registered from reading that - definitely not saying he'd be back soon!

Not looking good for Bingham at present - fallen right down the pecking order. It's a shame, people were expecting a lot more from him this season.

He's not playing with any confidence when he comes on as a sub.

Somehow he's got to get his head right - strikers can't afford to be afraid to miss chances. The likes of Kane, Giroud and Vardy have all missed sitters in the last couple of weeks but keep expecting the next one to go in. It's the only way.

Luke James on loan! with Fenwick in a 442.
Use Binghams pace as a right winger if he can cross a ball like.
