I don't think it's quite at forgone conclusion, tomorrow's forecast is for the rain to relent then it's going to be dry on Thursday with light rain on Friday, so the pitch will have time to recover from the last two days so I suppose it depends how bad Saturday is.

I wonder if they could look at borrowing specialist equipment from Durham County Cricket club who have the big 'super soppers' as the drainage on the Vic is pretty good so a bit of work with those could get the game on. As you say the last thing we want is to fall another game behind.

Not sure what weather forecast you are looking at PJ or whether you are just arguing for the sake of arguing, but every forecast Ive seen has said its going to piss down the rest of today, its going to piss down tomorrow ( Theres a Met Office localised flood warning in place ) its going to rain Thursday and Friday, and its going to piss down again on Saturday.

Struggling to see how the game will be on after 6 days of rain given the last one was off for one day of rain, but if its dry all day on Thursday as you claim you might want to apply for a job with the Met Office.

Looking for an argument? I think there's a good chance the game will be off that's why I suggested getting a bit of help from Durham I just don't think it's a forgone conclusion. Yes its forecast to rain on Wednesday and Friday but not persistently like it has for the last two days, and the day in between is forecast to be mainly dry. So the pitch will recover a bit before Saturday which looks a bad forecast again.

I looked at the Met Office and the BBC. It's just a discussion not arguing.

I'm not sure If this is correct but I'm sure if the first game is of they play it in midweek if the replayed game is called of they then play it on a weekend so that teams dont fall behind in the rounds. Good thing about it being called of Is at least we can look forward to the 4th round draw.

Lets get some volunteers to go down to the domes and pinch the big one to cover the pitch and then take it back in the dark under cover.

Think it's gonna be a struggle to get the game on. Rain forecast all week and already the full Sunday morning fixtures have been cancelled already, which is pretty rare 5 days before a game.

In our well documented season 74-75 in which we had many cup replays we ended the season playing 8 league games in March and 8 in April, winning only 3 of that 16 in the process. Hopefully we don't suffer the same fate this season.

Yes if the game was now it would have no chance whatsoever buts it's not, it's on Saturday.

The local news weather agreed with the forecast I read earlier, we will have periods of heavy rain tomorrow rather than persistent rain with dry periods then the weather is set to change on Thursday morning with getting colder but that and Friday are looking like pretty much dry days.

You'd be surprised how quickly surface water drains especially on something in good condition with good drainage like a football pitch. So if the forecast is right by Friday night the pitch might be alright, especially with a bit of extra work to dry things up. Mark Simpson said on here on Boxing Day that if it stops raining surface water disappears pretty quickly from the Vic.

The problem again seems be Saturday's forecast which is for more heavy rain from about midday, the water table must be sky high so it wouldn't take anywhere as much as it normally would for the surface water to return. But forecasts can change this far out so you never know.

LOL, you said it was going to be dry Thursday, but looking at that link you have posted its forecast rain from 5 in the morning till 7 at night.

If the game is on Saturday then either every forecast I've seen is wrong, or there was a serious rabbit away for the Notts County game.

The Thursday forecast has changed completely since the time I posted it as weather forecasts tend to do.

Friday and especially Saturday are looking a bit more promising now though.

Local footy has been called on this sunday as they expect the weather to get worse over the next few days.

Might do the same with your saturday games chip

I would think that if the game was postponed then the rearranged game would be Tuesday 19th. The most likely day of any replay. Meaning the second postponement of the Accrington game, If game played and drawn then that game would be called off anyway. Can't see the FA cancelling two FL games to get a 3rd round FA cup game played. Chip It is quite feasible if the game is persistently called off then it could be played on 30th January (4th round day). That has happened in the past when a game from previous round has not been played then the date of the next round has been used to complete the previous round games

Mr Irrelevant wrote:

We were in the 3rd round draw, hence why we have drawn Derby in the actual 3rd round of the competition.

I heard that Sepp Blatter had promised Billy Paynter for xmas that we wouldn't have another game played until he's fully fit. Apparently he instructed Michel Platini (who's in charge of World Football weather conditions) with a customary bung, to arrange for bad weather across the North East for at least a Month.
I know this to be 'FACT' as that bloke who lives at the top of Belk Street told me when he was fixing one of the old Apollo Moon Landers in his back yard.

JUST ON THE WEATHER.

We may need to get this game played.

My weather watching mate is telling me that winter is about to strike. And it could be proper winter.

If its as he predicts those snow covers might be needed.

Someone has done an analysis of Express headlines and the 'extreme weather' headline pops up with alarming regularity, so regular it is predictable. Unlike the weather.

not sure if we have snow covers, we have frost covers but they are not waterproof.

They probably only work a couple of hours a day to be honest. Probably same times Verrills opens.

Just spoken to the club. They say that the pitch is playable at the moment and that they are not planning a referee inspection unless the weather significantly deteriorates between now and Saturday.

The only thing I can think of is they want people to keep buying tickets. I've never know pools to get called of after a few heavy showers like it was for the county match.

Oooooh the sarcasm.

I am sure Mark Simpson will be on soon to explain why less rain on Boxing day, was worse for the pitch than the biblical amount we have had this week.

It will be made perfectly clear.

My money is on them snow/frost covers suddenly morphing into rain covers, that was denied a week ago.

Ronnie saying in tbe Mail we got a good draining pitch.

So sounds like he wants this game on more than Boxing Day.

Should be a good atmosphere like 84.
Same result minus the crowd trouble this time!

Maybe the club have covered the pitch with all the unsold programmes from the Notts County game and the unsold testimonial souvenir one's from Richie Humphreys do.

I think it will probably come down to the weather on Friday and most importantly Saturday.

If we have two days were we only have yesterday's rainfall (were it barely rained even though it was damp and miserable) it's non going to be waterlogged as the drainage is very good. If it's raining like this all day Saturday then the game will have no chance. On Christmas Day/Boxing Day it rained persistently and consistently for about 27 hours up to the kick and rained throughout what would have been the match. Mark Simpson said on here that even they'd had that much rain if the rain stopped the pitch would be ok pretty quickly, the game was called off with that in mind.

We have ground staff who I'd imagine have spent all week working on keeping on top of things and I'd imagine by last night after a relatively dry day in comparison to the rainfall we've had this week it was in decent nick.

Can you not read Chip?

I said last night, I have said in my post that if Sarurday is anything like today then the game has no chance.

The forecast I used was the Met Office. I posted it on here but it changed as forecasts do. You are saying it has rained for 4 days, it rained very little yesterday.

Let's just wait and see if the games on I'm sure of it is you'll just start going back to Boxing Day being off as some sort of conspiracy even though that was put to bed at the time by the club on here! It absolutely lumped down on Boxing Day at the time of the actual match and for nearly all of the day before. The game is not until Saturday so I'd imagine what weather we get on the actual day is crucial.

try contacting the ticket office or the club offices or the club shop. Check the indiviual opening times for each one first though and make a note of all 3 phone numbers as they may give you information of behalf of the ticket office in the club shop or vice versa. They may also sell you a ticket in the club shop and sell you a Hangus doll in the ticket office.

FFS PJ , yes I can read, though why I bother getting involved in this sort of discussion I have no idea, as its utterly pointless.

All I said in the original post was that as it seemed likely the game would be off ( based on a forecast of rain every day this week, which has thus far been accurate ) did anyone know if it got priority over the league game the following Saturday or would be moved to a midweek slot.

You then immediately came back wanting to pick an argument over whether it would be off, and saying " it's going to be dry on Thursday with light rain on Friday" . This has now morphed into you suggesting the pitch is playable today ( when even the bloody manager is now saying theres standing water on the pitch ) or suggesting we all think there was a conspiaracy to get the Notts County gfame called off, when all people have actually said was that if the pitch cant cope with 12 hours rain, how the hell will it cope with 6 days rain ?

Ive still not had a definitive answer as to when a re-arranged game would take place ( which was what I actually wanted to know as it could possibly affect my plans for the week after that ) so I'm going to leave it at that and hopefully leave you to argue with yourself, which Im sure you are more than capable fo doing.

Hang on a second, you jumped all over me saying 'I don't think it's quite a forgone conclusion that the game will be off' ridiculously saying I was trying to cause an argument. You have attempted to take mock that view all week, you now appear to be backtracking as appears the game does have a slight chance on being on which is all I said in the first place.

I've not said anywhere that I think the pitch would be playable today, it's rained all day after loads of rain during the week. If we have two relatively decent days and most importantly Saturday is alright I think the game has a good chance of going ahead as Pools seem to think as well.
