TBH I don't know why they bought it in the first place albeit China was booming at the time. The plant is old and antiquated, worked there in the late seventies and went back a few years ago. What a s*******, credit to the people who worked there, never good to see people losing their employment.
Due to EU laws they can't be subsidised but it's a known fact that other EU countries do subsidise some of their industries. Maybe if was in a Tory stronghold more effort would be made.

No doubt they'll just blame the market and buy steel elsewhere (maybe George's new mates in China can help). There certainly isn't anybody in power who gives a toss about Redcar or the steel industry.

Think Jamie is right about other EU countries supporting their own industry on the sly. France certainly does, car prices are rigged right across the country to keep Renault and Citroen going - where there's a will there's a way.

Labour don't need to do nought in the N.E. for votes, Parties only invest money in areas to try and win votes, no need to do it in the N.E. my Nana and Grandad have always voted Labour so I do.
The N.E. is a lost cause for the Tories mostly due to the Thatcher legacy which will take generations to go away.
