Not a bad game to watch tonight Scunthorpe overall looked a yard quicker than us,as for the goals 3 mistakes and one good goal.
It will take time for pools to gel as a team good to see woodsy getting stuck in

Sorry but that tonight wasn't Scunthorpe looking just a yard ahead of us.

Major talking point straight away is just how bad that formation is with those players. You have Harrison doing most of his defending practically at right back. The wing backs being outnumbered when defending down wings and a sitting midfield who may as well be an additional centre back. Midfield was shocking. Nothing at all.

Paynter looked decent at holding up but surely he's not being instructed to be coming that deep to get the ball!!

I know it's only a friendly but that had a lot of worrying signs. The formation definitely main one and then fact we don't really have any stand out midfielders to have 3 in the middle either. Get back to 442 please Moore with duckworth and Carroll at full back, even with just wide midfielders as opposed to wingers as them 2 at full back should be attacking enough anyways

Totally agree. I hate the 352. Harrison needs to be in the centre and we must play 4 at the back. We will get murdered every week otherwise.

With that formation you have to win the midfield battle, which we didn't. I thought Walker looked much fitter and better in spells, Featherstone did well, but we lacked a ball winner or a leader alongside them. Thought we looked much better balanced when Woodsy came on, but we're desperate for a Tshibola style player in there instead of Bates. Thought Paynter played well. 3 shockingly bad mistakes for 3 of the goals. Was disappointed in both wing backs backs, mainly because they couldn't get the ball in decent areas. Ultimately it's better for us to perform like this in pre-season so Ronnie knows where/what he needs to work on.

The wingback where either trying to defend or just stood somewhere near the halfway line. They offered very little tonight in terms of attacking support. Duckworth passed the ball backwards in the second half to Harrison and just stood there. Only time will tell but definitely need to sign a few wingers.

We had a combination tonight of no width, and a defensive set-up, I thought Paynter, Bingham, Oates and Fenwick all played decent but our midfield was too deep to support them. We consistently gave the ball away in stupid area's, therefore setting up attacks for Scunny.
The lad Whittle got stuck in and looked useful, Jones had a poor game/ maybe not quite fit yet?. We hit the bar (Paynter) and the post (Bingham), so could have had a couple.

I thought we looked better once Magnay moved to centre back and Duckworth came on the pitch at right wing back. Woods was a massive improvement on Bates and Whittle showed a lot more quality and desire in 15 minutes than ive seen in the whole 4 games I have watched Carroll in a Pools shirt.

No, they are passing on comment, mainly about formation.

Now not sure of your views but I wouldn't like to go whole pre season using a formation which doesn't seem to suit us to change it once season has begun.

I paid £10 to get in.... so as far as I'm concerned it was a proper game. You probably weren't there so your comment means nowt.

I would agree we need a Tshibola type player, don't know if Bell has been freed, think he could of done a better job than Bates tonight he didn't look comfortable at all.

Don't know if Ronnie has any plans for a loan player in midfield.

Think we should remember Harrison and Jones had only played 45 minutes each before tonight.

Once again impressed with Whittle, hope we see more of him.

I don't bother with many pre season games but would have went tonight if I wasn't at work just to have a look at the new lads.

They aren't proper games though, and in about 90% of cases they aren't worth watching.

The result, performance and everything will have no direct impact of bearing on anything that happens between now and May.

A bit like last season when we looked garbage in the friendlies and got off to a flyer in the league eh...

I'm trying to put a positive spin on what I saw tonight, but to be fair we were totally outclassed.......but don't worry we'll storm the title.

Very similar last year, I hated that 5/3/2 in the home games towards the end.

Scunny looked class, Paddy Madden ran the show. Dawson in CM for them was good too.

Still early days, plenty of time to work on shape in whatever formation Ronnie decides.

If Luke Williams was in our midfield we would of won 4 - 0. The lads unreal and had a very good game.

Didn't we once get promoted after losing 4-0 to Scunthorpe?

There we are then, an omen....
