Is 44 points to be safe the lowest ever?

If I was offered 44 points 2 months ago I would have said forget it never enough

44 points is certainly safe now Rinkender. Just be thankful that it is.

Before Mr Moore turned things around we'd have been hoping 34 points was the lowest ever. We can only be thankful we had a doable target to aim for. Imagine if it had been over 50.

I remember people predicting 48 or so and thinking no way under two down but wow 44 tells you how poor the league is, thankfully

In 2008/9 Grimsby stayed up with just 41 points.

Apologies for jumping the gun without checking the full facts, I was still euphoric after our survival and just saw the numbers without the fine detail.

I've re-done my homework and in recent times the lowest 3rd from bottom points total was 40 by Shrewsbury in 1999/2000. In those days it was only 1 relegated and Chester went down on 39 points pipped on goal difference by Carlisle. Since going to 2 down from 2002/3 Rushden have the lowest with 44 in 2004/5, not counting the 2008/9 season which had those points deductions.
