Just found out the other day that the zeppelin Captain that bombed the Clarence Road stand was Marlene Dietrich's uncle. Did everybody except me already know this? He must have been cross when she supported the allies in WW2.

I remember the chap known as Central Park sending an article in to Monkey Business, about a mate who had a really unhealthy obsession with Pools.

In the article he said his mate went to Germany to try and find the zeppelin pilot's grave, so he could disrespect it in some way. Didn't mention the Dietrich connection though.

He might have been looking in the wrong place. According to this a gadgie from Seaton shot the zeppelin which turned into a fireball as it plunged towards the sea about a mile off the Heugh Battery. Himmel!

Central Park should have just had a piss off the Headland.

A friend of mine's uncle was a U-boat commander who got caught by the Yanks then escaped (albeit only temporarily).
Mind, she's in her mid-thirties and he'd be over 100 by now if he'd still been alive. But I do have overwhelming evidence the story is true.
I guess he must have been her great uncle or great great or whatever.

I didn't realise until recently how much stick the Hartlepools took in WWII also.

My understanding is that Dietrichs uncle was buried at Seaton Holy Trinity cemetry for many years but after an agreement made in 1959 between the British and German governments his body was exhumed and transferred to Cannock Chase to the German Military Cemetry.
There's approximately 5000 graves there.
