Ian McGuckin went to Fulham he didn't play a first team game for them as far as I can remember due to injury - maybe MJ can confirm or otherwise.

Moving slightly off course, McGuckin has just been appointed Andy Toman's assistant manager at Northallerton Town.

Anyway...

I remember he played for us against Fulham at Craven Cottage. I was sat in the stands & Paul Baker & Mick Smith were just behind me. We lost 1-0 to a goal in the first few minutes.

Kevin Johnson - I remember him being sent off at Torquay for fighting another 'Pools player we finished with 8 players. Roy Hogan was also sent off. We got beat.
I always liked Roy Hogan, he must have one of the highest number of appearances for the club. We sponsored his kit for several seasons. Thomas Butler must have a high red / yellow cards per game ratio don't know if that makes him hard or just clumsy - I'll settle for the latter.

One of my all time favourite players. Remember the 77/78 Player of the Year night. Billy was POTY and top goalscorer, not bad for a centre-half. Have another reason for remembering the night, but I can't go into that on here!!

Tell yer who was HARD, Andy Saville. And McPhail.

Well done Phil, I was trying to think of Robinson & all I could think of was 'Yosser Hughes'. Trevor was sometimes a hard man but when I met him he was a very quiet placid person. Have there been any hard goalkeepers - none spring to mind, maybe Martin Burleigh.

No'one's mentioned Paul Haigh yet. He didnt even have to tackle opponents to get the ball, just look at them.
Plus he was prone to to the odd sprint after the opponent across the field and totally deck them.
The hardest player I've ever known at pools.

I reckon Martin Hodge was a bit mental and maybe Brian Horne

Brian Horne was a bit mental as you say but not really hard. Maybe Barry Siddall in his day - his day being well before he joined us though.

Did Mark Tinkler play for Leeds in the top flight? He captained England U-18s I think.

Andy Dibble has got to be the maddest keeper to play for Pools! Complete nutter. What's all the tapping the post about then?
