I see the lad who scored the winning goal against us for Blyth Spartans (and also made one of their goals against Birmingham in the next round) is going on trial at Oldham.

He is still young and wondered whether we should have taken a look at him since at least one of our wingers still can't cross a ball!

Was full of running and obviously got the goal but I didn't see a pro footballer in him based on that one game.

we should consider looking at lads like him. I know that Dale lad from Blyth has said he wouldnt fancy being a Professional Footballer in interviews (think his family own a pub?) but there were a couple of Blyth players who looked almost "up to the mark".

I reckon if he got offered the chance to turn pro he would soon change his mind like.

Suppose the position were in, Ronnie will want players who are 'ready to go' so to speak rather than a learning curve (ie switching from non league) but agree we should be looking st such teams/players. I very rarely get the impression there is much scouting going on from the club though at these levels?

I can't be the only one who thought Robbie Dale was really poor? I'd be very disappointed if he's the standard of player we're looking at.

Agreed although he did play well against Birmingham

However the main reason we shouldn't sign him is that he is 30 !

I thought Blyth full stop were poor on the night, nthe lad Rivers looks like he's got decent feet and he took his goal well but he's too lightweight for League Football for me he'll struggle to get involved in games. We need to be looking at a better caliber of player than lads from Blyth with all due respect.

Robbie has been offered a full time pro contract. Turned it down.

Strange decision to turn down a league club, I don't know his occupation but there are very few you couldn't pick up after dropping out to play pro football for a few years. This sums up the complacently in British society IMO.

It was mentioned after the Birmingham game, Queen Lawrenson on the match of the day had a bit of snide dig actually which is not like him. He (Dale) has no desire to play professional football.

This article probably sums up his situation up quite well: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... ional.html

He is happy playing football for Blyth Spartans. He is happy working in his family’s business. He’s content with what he has got. In a modern society where people conform to what others expect of them I would say this is refreshing honest. complacency? Enlightened I would say.

If it was me I would have signed in seconds like. As for Rivers, I don't think Oldham have offered him anything as yet.

Fair play I suppose if he's happy, good luck to him.

Apparently available for Blyth tomorrow would it be worth a trial here?? The lad is from Spennymoor and is playing higher than Fenwick was .? Players from non league are likely to where we are forced to cast our net by necessity not design, more so if we are non league ourselves in a few months time.

But Nathan Cartman is a poor mans Scott Fenwick despite scoring a stack of goals at a higher level.....
