Where was little India? I remember hearing about it but don't think I'm old enough to actually remember it.

I've looked for Little India a couple of times when I've been in town. Not only are the street names changed, but I don't see anything that even resembles the layout of the old area.

I think it's a bit sad, especially when you look round at some parts of Hartlepool now....just as run down, but full of people with no prospects and not much hope. At least Little Indians seemed happy and had a way of life, with their rag and bone carts and sea-coal trucks (and horses in living rooms :) )

Little India was demolished many years ago. It was between the Golden Flatts roundabout and the bridge over Station Lane on the side which is now bushes and grass.
Bet there was some characters living there.

Little India Was Aden, Bombay , Calcutta and Durban. Flattened May 1984. There was a fatal blaze in Calcutta grove.
The street names were named in alphabetical order down there.

Aden, Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, Edinburgh, Freenmantle, Garston, Harwich, Ilkley. Jutland, Keith, Larne. Manton Newton, Ormesby, Pickering, Queensland, Ross, Selby, Thirsk

In my short spell as a postie I did the Little India walk a few times. Walk 4. All the newstarts got it. Yeah, they were slums, but they weren't the only ones. Not going to name names but they weren't restricted to one part of town.
