I have only been going to pools for about 25 years hence the poll question.

If you answer 'no' I would be interested to know which team was worse.

Why the poll. Its Fukn obvious it is. We're bottom of the football league. Bear in mind when knowles took over he got us up. Relegation came into play in around 86 so we've clearly never finished bottom for at least 28 years.

It's a yes from me :(
I too have been going for around the same amount of time, Mr Beard, and can only say that this is without doubt the worst squad i can remember.
I had this exact same conversation with my dad this afternoon. He can obviously cast his mind back a lot further than I can, but even he was struggling to remember a more "gutless" team as he put it. All very depressing.

I genuinely hope I never see a fair few of those players who trudged off the Vic today at the end ever again and I not that bothered which ones I never see again either of those who finished the game.

Worst team ever for me, nothing you'd want to have in a decent football team at our disposal.

Wrong poll it should read worst Pools side ever

I have been watching Pools since 1972 and in all the bad teams there was at least 1 player capable of playing for another team in a Higher division and 1 player capable of playing in the same division e.g.

1972 Bill Green. Neil Warnock
1976 bobby. Scaife ?...... he went to Rochdale
1980 Boucher and Newton and Ayre
1982 Phil brown Andy Linighan
1984 Davie Linighan and Paul Dobson
1994 to 1997 really bad sides there was Gilchrist Cullen Steve Howard Beech
2014 no one capable of playing higher maybe Duckworth would get a league 2 contract and Flinders

I was at Mansfield where zero football was played but I have kept quiet but not at today's game but it is blatantly obvious this is the worse Pools side

Swap saville for Howard and ill probably agree

Gilchrist was/is my fav centre back for pools. Baldwin ran him close like if I'm being honest. Always likes mcguckins 1st spell aswell. He wouldn't be frightened to hurt some centre forwards

It's the worst Pools side I've ever seen. The only other side that compares is the one wheeled out by Mick Docherty in the early part of 83-84. That side was torn apart by Billy Horner at Christmas when Docherty was sacked, and very nearly kept us out of the re-election zone after having just NINE points on Boxing Day. It needed something like seven new players. The likes of Alan Weir, Mick Whitfield, Harry Wilson et al were never seen again.

It was horrible...but it wasn't as bad as this....

Agree with that. Seen some worse players but at least they had heart and fight

Thought the side pre Cyril were worse, thats just inside the 25 year mark. That side used to get thrashed towards the end, mind you it may not be long before the current lot are shipping 5 and 6. Since 1971 though the 83/84 side mentioned by Elvis would run this lot close.

The worst player to play for pools was Vince Barkers relation who played at centre half sctatchinghead Think his name was Fagan sctatchinghead Then second Harry Wilson.

No mention yet of John Borthwick? To be fair, he was limited ability but tried. That puts him a league above this lot.

No you didn't. You stimulated quite a reasoned debate. One of the better quality threads in this time of misery.

Mike Fagan, Mr Zone. Agreed he was a complete donkey but I had personal reasons for disliking Harry Wilson, so he will always be my choice of all time worst.

Considering we only got relegated from League 1 in 2013, our current situation is pathetic/unbelieveable !

At least we waited a season to drop thru the trapdoor although this set of morons had a good try to do it at the first attempt last season..
Then they ensured we had a team of absolute losers to ensure we could accomplish it this..

First started watching Pools after moving up here in the late 80s after meeting a Durham lass & bought my first season ticket after seeing Pools hammered 6-0 by Donny - Sept '89? Yes- deffo worse side in last 25 years. Devoid of characters, flair & mental strength.

There are actually people who have voted no? Are the players and Russ Green members of this board by any chance?

That 89 side had what would become some very good players in it, such as Allon, Dalton, Baker. Strange how the results were so bad. We put out on paper worse sides in the mid 90s imo, yet finished in more or less same position. On the basis of that I am changing my mind and going for the side that finished the 82/83 season and started the 83/84 season as our worst.
