Top Gear presenter drives though Argentina in Porsche with numberplate H982 FKL in latest stunt for BBC's Top Gear

Jeremy Clarkson was facing the wrath of Argentinians on Thursday after driving though the country in a Porsche with the numberplate H982 FKL - a possible reference to the 1982 Falklands war.
The stunt, which was filmed for Top Gear, is the latest in a series of offensive remarks or gestures by the BBC presenter, who was found to have breached Ofcom guidelines in July when he referred to an Asian man as a "slope" while filming Top Gear in Burma.
Clarkson, who was forced to apologise in May after appearing to mumble the N-word as he sang a rhyme for the programme, was reportedly warned two weeks ago by the BBC not to cause a diplomatic row while filming the motoring programme in Argentina.
His goading gesture went unnoticed on the first part of his trip from the ski resort of Bariloche to the southern port of Ushuaia, but made local headlines as he neared the end of his 1,350 mile trek at the head of a convoy of vehicles including a Lotus and Ford Mustang driven by fellow Top Gear presenters James May and Richard Hammond.
The car at the centre of the controversy was reported to be "hidden" in a shed in a ski resort called Cerro Castor near Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world.

Argentinians and that Clarkson "could have problems".
However, the BBC denied the numberplate had been intentionally chosen. Andy Wilman, BBC executive producer, said: "Top Gear production purchased three cars for a forthcoming programme; to suggest that this car was either chosen for its number plate, or that an alternative number plate was substituted for the original is completely untrue."

DVLA records show that the license plate is currently linked to a grey Porsche with a valid tax certificate, but do not detail how long it has been fitted to the vehicle.
However the records show that the Porsche itself was first registered in 1991, the last year in which “H” license plates were issued, meaning it is possible the plate has been with the vehicle throughout its life.

The Falkland Islands were taken briefly by Argentina during its 1982 invasion which preceded a 74-day war with Britain. The war claimed the lives of 649 Argentinians and 255 Britons.
Argentinian president Cristina Kirchner has attacked Britain repeatedly over the Falklands since taking over the reigns of power following the death of her husband Nestor.
The issue is particularly sensitive in southern Argentina, where Top Gear is now being filmed.
Ushuaia has blocked several British-flagged cruise ships from docking under a controversial local law named after an Argentinian cowboy who led a bloody 19th century uprising against the British.
The Patagonian Highway - better known as Route 40 - where Clarkson was filming is part of a famous road in western Argentina running parallel to the Andes mountains.
The scenes are due to screen in March next year.

Indeed. Oddly enough I've just had a message on facebook from Raoul Soria, an Argie veteran pissing himself laughing at the stunt. This is a guy who looked after me in Buenos Aires when a group of us went on a official and invited 'reconciliation visit' to Argentina back in 2002. The actual veterans of both sides aren't quite so precious.

Incidentally, if you ever get a chance to go to BA then grab it. What a city! one word of advice, don't take the missus.

The whole thing is a stunt to get people watching the next series of Toss Gear. On the news at six about them having to leave Argentina under police escort. Brilliant PR from the BBC.

He's picking up a bit of a cult following in France if the people I talk to are anything to go by. Apparently it would be illegal in France to do most of the things Top Gear does and they love that.
I guess it must fall somewhere between holocaust denial and selling Nazi memorabilia.
