And the other day, we were in this restaurant and they turned up with a big tureen of soup, took the lid off and stirred it and a tortoise floated to the top........  A very dead one.

I did aye, it was a Chinese New Year dinner round at a mate's Dads. He was planning chicken soup but they had this anteater at the butchers so he bought both and lobbed it in. It wasn't entirely revolting until I found out what it was. Bit greasy.

The weirdest animal I've seen in China was Malcolm from Birmingham, he had twin hearing aids and it made him look like a Cyberman off Dr Who.

It's almost impossible to be a vegetarian here unless you buy and cook everything yourself. If you get presented with a bowl and it's got bone ends sticking out of the soup and you say I don't eat meat, they take the meat out, look at you like you've just pissed on their Grandma and give it back to you.

For instance, our rass made some chinese dim sum dumplings. Vegetable ones she said. So I got wrapped round one and I said, 'whats that brown stuff??' 'Pork,' she says. 'I thought they were vegetable,' says I. 'They are,' she says.

And if you can follow that logic, you'll be a successful vegetarian in China.

Oh the grub is phenomenal, top notch stuff. Since the veggie bit went out of the window (I don't really mind, it's all subsistence farming round here. Think Farmers Markets are new?? ha!!) I've rediscovered bacon sarnies but the breads not great as they don't eat it much and the bacon is weird.

There's a shop called Jintu Pastey up the road a bit but it's not exactly Greggs. I'd try a pie shop but hardly anyone in China's got an oven!! One of the best takeaways you can get is called no mi ji and it's sticky vegetable rice fried in batter.

groan.
Did you check the salt and pepper closely on the anteater? It might have been the anteater's last supper.
