"If we maintain, rigidly, the status quo, then a Fifa World Cup can never be played in countries that are south of the equator or indeed near the equator," he said. "We automatically discriminate against countries that have different seasons than we do in Europe. I think it is high time that Europe starts to understand that we do not rule the world any more, and that some former European imperial powers can no longer impress their will on to others in far away places."

Someone remind me where Brazil is again? And Qatar?

The fact they're willing to move a world cup for a few brown envelopes is unbelievable, it should never have been agreed in the first place.

Basically Blatter is saying the people who pay the most want to host it so we'll bend over for them.

Qatar must be a couple of thousand miles to the North of the equator. What the fuck is he on about. It's mad hot, tiny, expensive and had no history it background in the game until it became a play thing for obscenely rich Arabs.

I've flown Qatar Airways a few times and as you're landing in Doha to be in transit they show you a promotional video for the place. If driving 4x4's over sand dunes and catching birds of prey on one of those big gloves is your thing then you're in luck. The surface of the Moon would be about as a suitable a place to hold the World Cup. You'd rather the odious little turd said "they bunged us the most money"

I think it should take place in the summer and teams will just have to adapt to conditions .

It might not be free flowing high tempo football but surely all countries have the right to bid for the world cup ?

50 degree heat does tend to slow the pace of the game, especially when people are keeling over dead.

Qatar has a smaller population than available amount of tickets on sale for the 2014 World Cup! How are they going to fill grounds?

They'll probably build some robot fans as they have enough money to to add to the authentic flavour and carnival atmosphere.

The world cup in Qatar will be the dullest, in terms of football, and fun for fans, ever, and will kill the game stone dead.

If people out there really believe it is every nations right to host a world cup, then dont moan when the game dies because of it.

The world cup should be hosted by countries that can make it fun and safe for the only people that matter.

THE FANS.

Its utter lunacy to host it in Qatar, no matter what month of the year it is done.

At least fans can drink in Russia.

:angry-screaming: Oh yeah that's another reason Qatar is the shittest place I've had the misfortune of spending a few hours in, you couldn't even have a pint in the Airport, an Airport without drink!!?!?

I was talking to a lass at a wedding last summer who lives in Dubai about the World Cup. In June/July she said the weather is awful. She normally has a holiday in the UK to get away from it! You can't leave the house during the day even to go to the shop. It is unpleasant oppressive dry heat that you can't do anything in and people just stay indoors. Let's adapt to the conditions

Could change it to a 5-a-side tournament in Qatar leisure centre.
