Such fun, I shall be doing a lot more of this!! clappp  clappp  clappp

Just reminded them of some of their Massive attendances over the last few years....

BIG European games eh?!?!

Boro v FC Xanthi 15/9/2005 att.14,191

Boro v Litex Lovech 15/12/2005 att.9,436

Boro v Dnipro 3/11/2005 att.12,953

You lot go on about winning the League Cup so let's have a look at some of your attendances over the past few years....

Boro v Watford 13/10/1999 att.8,843

Boro v Macclesfield 19/9/2000 att.5,144

Boro v Northampton 11/9/2001 att.3,915

Boro v Brighton 24/9/2003 att.10,435

Boro v Coventry 27/10/2004 att.11,833

Boro v C.Palace 30/11/2005 att.10,791

Boro v Blackburn 21/12/2005 att.14,710 (Quarter Final)!!!!

Boro v Notts County 20/9/2006 att.11,148

It seems to me that Boro 'fans' don't actually go to watch Boro....they go to watch the other team!!!!
In the above League Cup games when Boro actually won, the attendance for the next round actually went up by quite a lot....if they were playing a 'big' team that is!!!!

:sweeeet:  :sweeeet:

pretty sure i read somewhere that relative to the size of their catchment area they are the best supported side in the top 2 tiers.

you can knock their away attendances i guess, but their home attendances are impressive in anyones books given the place isnt that much bigger than hartlepool.

Yeah but lets not let facts get in the way of a good piss take eh??

Chip, they are surrounded by Stockton, Billingham, Thornaby, Yarm Redcar etc etc...what they do is quote the population of Middlesbrough and people assume that's where all the fans come from...utter bollox of course, they've been doimg that one for years.

Whilst we're on this subject ,as far as I can recall back in 1986 the Vic wasn't some TARDIS like complex was it,well it must have been really because every fooking Borer fan you talk to was there until you ask them who they actually played doh banghead banghead

Another thing what's a devout born and bred Poolie doing reading the fooking Gazzette refred refred

thats a fairish point snowy, but surely chunks of stockton, billingham, norton etc are just as near to pools.

even if you include places like yarm and redcar their potential fan base is tiny compared to cities like leeds and southampton and even sunderland.

whenever money is invested in a club its attendances rise. pools being an obvious example.

just how many fans they would get without gibsons money is another question.

what were their attendance like at ayresome park in the dark days ?
On average they were always about the 10,000 mark when times were more mundane for them in years gone by. The whole support thing though is a Teesside thing and even though Billingham and Norton are roughly the same distance away, they might as well be on the dark side of the moon for the majority..... it's a tribal thing Chip, if you follow my logic.
I have to admit that most of the resentment I have is media fed, I remember when Darlo and the Borers were both in Division 3 in the late eighties and even though it was a local derby, I as a neutral was never in any doubt who was the favoured team, impariality never came into it. Another point was the suggestion when the Riverside was built was that Pools should move there and play alternate weeks to make full use of the 'facility' which I believe was built by the Teesside Development Corporation... I also fumed as the late Cleveland County Council pulled all the stops out to get it open on time, whilst at the same time appearing to me to do everything it could to bury Pools.

I remember a big fat ginger Cleveland councillor who wanted to screw Pools for every penny we owed, which he KNEW would finish the club off, but years later the same councillor was quite accommodating in writing off Boro's debt to the same Council. No votes in it for him over here though was there? I wish I could remember his name.

I sincerely hope he is DEAD, and when he died he was screaming, alone, terrified, and in extreme agony, and also he KNEW he was about to take his last breath.

There, I feel better now already.

I had to laugh at the arrogance of some of them Cleveland County Councillors...when they wanted to keep Cleveland intact in the mid 90's they wanted to have one big authority run from Middlesbrough and suggested that the whole of Hartlepool could have a .....parish council, as it would then be a mere suburb and the name suggested for the new super Teesside authority... one suggestion was...Greater Middlesbrough.
