WONT SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

I'm not involved in kids footy because of the politics.

But I do know local teams that have good things to say about Pools and I have my own opinion on Pools current youth set up based on actually seeing what they do and how they do it.

So what do they do? I've seen it from both sides and came up with my decision based on the evidence and my experience. As I said before if it was a business ( And KH says pools is) It would've been shutdown when Ian Kerr left for Scarborough ..

Completely agree with Dibbs. As I've said before our young'un was told 'you're too small and we don't have room for ball players at this club' (Scott and Horner era, plus a big fat geordie gadgie who knew nowt about football but loads about eating pies). He was 16 at the time been at a premier ship club at 9 then another now in Championship, where as you say your face needs to fit at the latter one it didn't. To cut along story short he played regularly for arguably our best county side (same team as Evan H) getting to the national final, scoring a hatrick in quarter final against Co. Durham. Martin Scott was at the game but left at half time missing the goals. Back at the club later he was given the news. Dissappointment doesn't come near. Only played in the Wearside league for a couple of seasons then for Manchester Uni after that.

If he was let go by two higher level clubs what makes you think its acceptable for Pools to keep him on?

This 'too small' thing keeps cropping up don't you think it's just a less brutal way of a telling a 16 year old 'we don't think you are good enough?'

Whatever we all think of Martin Scott he's a respected youth coach and would he seriously doubt he would dismiss out of hand 'ball players!?' Think of some of the kids that have come through and played a bit of first team football a little way back, Foley, Istead, Wilkinson.... How small was your son!?

As has already been said it's a brutal business but it's no real surprise you agree with Dibble when your son has been rejected. I'm sure he's a good footballer but if your Dad doesn't rate you who does!

But, Carlisle forward Jason Blackburn had other ideas.

The powerful frontman evaded the offside trap and raced onto Frankie Wallace’s through ball.

Blackburn kept his composure and slipped the ball under the advancing Dalton into the bottom corner earning his team a draw.

Read more at http://www.pnefc.net/news/article/acade ... CoptLKx.99. I know its only youth team Jason is definitely not too small.. In fact he's probably one of the lads in the Carlisle kit you've seen in the gym.. I'm not that blinkered that I'll defend all things pools as I said I'll form my opinion on what I see .

I am not even sure why anyone agrees or disagrees with me on this topic. I DO know some of you have completely misinterpreted what I was saying and said.

I mentioned about one player that has been rejected by pools this christmas, after being there since he was seven. He was always the smallest player, yet arguably the most skillful.

Its true that the reason given was that he was too small. Not that he wasnt good enough. Its a shocking reason to give. He should be bugger off to spain and will probably get in barcelona first team in two years. Size doesnt matter there.

With regards to parents and their own sons, I dont think I have mentioned my own lad, or that he has ever been rejected.

Newcastle were watching my lad, and they came to see him at under 14 level against a darlo team.

We won 3-0, and my lad playing in a free role in a front three, as we did all season, set up all three goals, and was given MOTM by the darlo team manager.

The Newcastle scout introduced himself to me, and basically said this:

Your lad is decent but needs to be more selfish. He could have attempted to score himself with two of the goals he set up, and wont make it by playing the way he does.

I told him that he did exactly we we want him to do. Create chances for others, and score his fair share. We are a team and we are trying to win the league.

He then told me:

"At this age, its about the individuals not the team, and he needs to show more individually."

I told my lad this and all he said was:

So am I supposed to get the ball, do a couple oF step overs, then try and take three players on and score, every time I get the ball? Rather than the team score and us win?

To which I replied:

To impress the scouts, YES.

And fair play to him, he has completely ignored that, come back from a ruptured ACL and is now playing superbly again, in midfield now, and loving it. And wouldnt join an academy now even if a place was offered. He enjoys playing too much to give that up for a place where all they do is train.

He knows that there are other, easier, routes into the pro, and semi pro game. He has been with physios for over 18 months attached to the pro and semi pro game, and is on various radars now.

And is going to 6th form to do sports science as well. All good.

Oh, whilst Newcastle were watching him, so were Sunderland and Everton. Pools never got in touch, ever.

And they were all still watching him when he suffered the horrific injury.

All I can say that one of the lads released in Dec 2012 is at Carlisle another has just got an England call up .. Hope young possy is not too crestfallen he only needs to look a Braithy to inspire him to go on and prove them wrong .. (Strange I know who you are on about even though I'm not supposed to have a clue!)

Sounds like the right attitude, play for the enjoyment but don't let it take over your life, 99.999% of people aren't good enough to turn pro, it's not like its the be all and end all of everything

In general though while you get some exceptions, the club scouts know what they are doing and very few (tho some) slip through the net
