And I'll have completed a full year off the booze. I've been doing it to raise money for Hartlepool and District Hospice. I know it's a busy time of year and there are others who are asking for sponsorship for worthwhile causes but it's for a very good cause. We all know how good a job the hospice do and they rely on the generosity of others to keep providing such a vital service.

Anyway I thought I'd pop the link on here to see if any of you good people fancied sponsoring me.

Brilliant effort. I did it from June last year to june this year. It got easier as time went on.

It also showed me just how rank some people get when full of drink. And how fookin stupid too.

Great work - I did it for the whole of 2012, felt really good at the end (didn't stop me getting back on it though). Did miss it slightly on matchdays though to be honest!

I've just gone nearly 10 hours without drinking. But that's nothing. I reckon I can hold out at least another 12.

I used to stop drinking for the whole of January, but after a week or so I would get a minging cold. I carried on drinking last January, and hey presto, no cold.

Now I don't need some TV scientist to correlate my data for me, and the conclusion I've come to is that there must be lots of goodness in beer I was missing out on.

It's not like I drink a lot anyway, I'm lucky if I get 10 pints a week in.

The beer's not my problem; it's the wine. It just sort of creeps up on you here even when you don't really want any.

I hate Wine. I just dont get why its so popular.

Never liked it, any of it. And pretentious wine buffs should be shot.

Wine is brilliant.

But thats because I am gay.

Good shout. I decided years ago never to bother drinking it ever again, as it gives me a headache after one glass. I've tried all different kinds - red, white, rose, French, Spanish, Chilean - but they just seem like poison to me.

And those people who say you should only match wine with food are very wrong. Beer has a much greater spectrum to go with different tastes, and even the pretentious restraunters are realising this.

I'm not keen on wine myself but glasses of pinard* keep appearing out of thin air. Even when I'm drinking what passes for beer. It's to drinking what being surrounded by farters is to breathing.
