should we be using him and James as the two strikers in a 4-4-2?

Or play with one less in midfield (i.e. Walton or Dolan dropping to the bench) and keep Poole in the same position?

Or should we persevere with the previous formation we've been using at home?

Interesting times, the squad seems to be still evolving which is a good thing, but I also think it's fair to say we haven't got anything like a nailed on starting XI

CC is prepared to try something new, with real rationale behind what he does, even though it seems he got it wrong for the start of the game yesterday

No idea but i hate it when flair players get dropped for tactical reasons.

Not Just at pools but anywhere.

James poole Should be playing always.

Only in england Does this happen.

Spain never drop any flair players (fabregas) for a more tactically astute holding player do they? (Busquets)

If we play franks up top it would mean leaving Poole out and i dont see that as a positive move.

Fuck knows why they were all dropped yesterday, my only guess is they did something wrong and were punished. To drop 1 makes sense but 3, na something has got to have happened behind the scenes for me

James has looked Knackered/injured for weeks so didn't surprise me. Compton threwa tantrum when subbed so again didn't surprise me. Poole did surprise me but cooper seems to rate Sweeney and we all know its Sweeney for Poole so not too surprising in a way.

After yesterday the question might be who should start at home and away out of Franks and James as lone striker with the other available to come on for them later in the game. Both of them relying on support from Monkhouse who offers a physical presence allied with an ability to pick a pass on the deck. The main problems that Cooper faces are still central midfield (and the way in which we sometimes get bullied off the ball and/or give it away cheaply) and the inconsistency of the flair players. Sweeney didn't have any impact yesterday and Poole wasn't much better.

Franks is better up front than on the wing. James does look like he needs a break and can't really complain about franks replacing him yesterday. Sweeney shouldn't be anywhere near the first 11 and I just hope Cooper realises this sooner rather than later. He seems to get most things right.

Franks is a quality player through the middle, he's simply not a winger.

He could have had 4 yesterday and brings something different to the others.

I've always thought Franks deserves a run in the middle of the park, he's clearly not a natural winger and its pretty scary how misused the lad has been.

central striker is Franks natural position I'm sure, so is it ever right to accommodate players when it forces other players out of their best position?

General question....

Franks and Compton are far from similar one is right footed the other left one is an out and out winger the other more suited as a central striker!

Yes but they're both footballers in their early 20s. So they are similar

From what everybody says, it does seem to come down to Poole or Franks, which doesn`t seem to be a bad problem to have.

Not sure it does Poole is better in the hole behind a striker, Franks should be used as a striker alternated or even with Luke James.
