Thought there was meant to be 600?

It must have worked though, haven't seen a single burkha since the march.

I agree. They hold a march to ban the burka, and then almost wear one. Ironic that.

That horse marching at the back towards the end of clip is a vile racist. I once saw it making nazi style gestures with its right hoof at an away match at Chesterfield in the late 1990s.

It was gratifying to "unfriend" people I had on my Facebook list yesterday once I discovered they were indeed involved or sympathised with these small-cocked not nice people.

Serious question here. Has Hartlepool got a problem with the amount of muslims (generalisation) who live there??

When I lived in Worksop, there was always a minority of people who railed against 'Paki's' but I never saw any in the town.

Has it fuck. We have a very small handful. About as common in Hartlepool as Darlington 1883 fans.

Hartlepool has a problem with the number of thick ignorant not nice people who live here that are unable to seperate a few terrorists actions from belonging to anyone who happens to be a bit brown.

In the heads of the thick all 'pakis' are terrorists and therefore are bad.

As far as I know 2.5% of people in town are something other than white British and there are a small number of Banglasheshi, Indian & Pakistani people in town mainly well integrated and decent people who are mostly Hindu. There is also a mosque set up by Ahmadiyya Muslims who are a peaceful sect and very open to letting people pop in and learn more about their religion.

I wonder how many of the half wits at that laughable excuse for a march were from the town.

Politics in the UK just gets a different shade of shit politician whichever way you vote and in Hartlepool in particular we're now ran by one of the worst groups of fuckwits you could ever imagine. I'd rather have Kim Jong Il running the town.

These people aren't interested in politics they just want to he angry and someone who can't fight back some by coming to a town with no Muslims to complain about Muslims they get to posture and try looking hard while getting pissed up with no chance of getting a kicking.

I reckon being in the EDL or whatever they claim to be part of is like being a kiddy fiddler, its all secret unless you're among other mentally ill people because I've never met anyone who has admitted to being either. They must be ashamed of themselves in polite company.

I accept that. One of the reasons I decided to leave was that a very good friend of mine declared that a vote for Gordon Brown was a vote 'for the party.' Admittedly, I'd decided to bail out anyway, but this gadgie was a very intelligent man.

At that stage it was obvious to me that there was no way back.

A good day for the people in the Police who outnumbered the embarrassingly thick fuckers marching, that overtime will come in handy in the Christmas pay packet.....

Cringeworthy stuff. Even the goon who founded them is embarrassed by it now.

'We've decided to take the Cenotaph'

What gives you the right to to do that you absolute 'lovely lovely person'.

Another group of Arseholes who need to get a decent hobby.

I'd hate to the think what some of the names of that memorial would make of these wastes of Oxygen using it as a focal point? Massively disrespectful, massively pointless the lot of them should be charged with wasting Police time.

I've got a few family members on the Cenotaph and I have to say they would probably be pleased to see people opposing the EDL/Infidels/Random Nazi arseholes. The Ban The Burkha loons chose the Cenotaph as the end point for their march, the other lot simply responded.

Having said that, I don't think that was the right phrase to use at all and they should have opposed the EDL without climbing about on the steps. Even so, by far and away the bigger disrespect is for a load of neo-Nazis to hijack a monument that honours the dead of two world wars, on of which was fought against the original Nazis.

Chip's point about the cost of policing this type of march is a good one and what mystifies me is why the police regularly use their powers to re-route demonstrations that involve far more people and are about issues that have a wider appeal but give the EDL whatever they ask for. I don't favour banning anybody who wants to demonstrate within the law but the police regularly negotiate with the unions and environmental groups to agree less disruptive routes for their marches. When did they decide to let the EDL's tiny band of criminals, Nazis and arseholes march wherever and whenever they like?

You'd almost think they want them to get far too much attention but the bags of overtime it generates is probably the best explanation. People campaigning about hospitals or cuts rarely seem to feel the need to get pissed, abuse passersby or start fights so you can't justify handing out the Christmas bonus when they march.

Why dont they just not police it at all or just have one van and a horse, the EDL would get no publicity and they would just look like 75-100 idiots shouting rubbish, which is exactly what they are.

About 3500 people turn out in the town once a fortnight for a single purpose, that purpose being a game of football. It doesn't shut down the town because the large proportion of idiots have moved on to shouting about how badly done to we all are by Muslims.

More kids leave the towns secondary schools (and some of the primary ones) than were on that march every single day at about the same time. Roads don't close for these events.

If us lot on the Bunker arranged to meet up and walk from West View to Greatham stopping at a few boozers while wearing football shirts the Police wouldn't close the roads for us to cross safely.

I had an unrelated conversation with some mates in the Pub on Friday night and one lad fucked off home early because me and a mate were discussing the town's mosque, how nice a building it looked and how welcoming the people who were running the place are. He hasn't spoken to us since because we apparently love Pakis and he can't associate with Paki lovers, more ridiculous though is his insistence that he isn't at all racist, a bit like the flags them doyles on Saturday were carrying.

I had a similar conversation with my elderly aunty a couple of years ago (she has since died). She was dead against the mosque and it shouldnt "be in her town" when I challenged her on the fact that its also "my" town and if I converted to Islam shouldnt I have a place to go to worship God as much as a christian who is from the town. She got very angry about this and changed the subject rapidly as she knew how stupid her argument was. As an atheist I couldnt give a crap about churches etc and just think they are nice buildings run by people who wouldnt hurt a fly.

I seem to remember that the area where the mosque is was a mess prior and they people who built it did so off their own back and it has brightened the place up.

I'm pretty sure that if they wanted to the government could ban organisations like the EDL overnight, given how 'incitement to racial hatred' is quite open to interpretation. It would save the taxpayer millions and there would be a lot less bad feeling generated on many sides.

Surely if you ban the EDL you have to.do the same with the radical Muslim clerics spouting their diatribe outside mosques on a Friday.
Stick all the fookers on Lundy island and let them kick the shit out of each other

The thing is that these clerics are on their own or in small groups of 3 or 4. They don't need police and nobody listens to them.

The EDL demand attention and are cowards which is why they adopt the herd mentality and come to towns where there is no chance of opposition, notice they didn't march in Boro which has a significantly larger Muslim community?

Hopefully when I am old the Atheists will outnumber the people of faith and the world will be a better place for it.

Britain needs a Banning Baron, a bit like when they had drug Czars/Tsars. Any cause wanting to do anything at all would have to run their plans past the Baron first. He would then make a completely impartial/random decision to ban or not.

Obviously the Baron would need to be scrupulously fair-minded, intelligent and open to bribery so I'd like to suggest me. I'm happy to be flown over once a week on Saturdays in exchange for a small attendance allowance of £2,000 a go and reasonable expenses not exceeding whatever I happen to spend in the pub or chip shop before watching Pools.

And before any you fuckers moan about this idea you can all be on my quango- The Bango Quango of Joy- and pocket some lovely taxpayers money of your very own. I really don't see why the coppers should be the only ones to benefit from the pathetic decline of the EDL.

I might also need a think tank, something like The Institute of Inclusive Social Banning ,and that would cost a bit extra obviously.

The police have the power, under public order legislation, to re-route marches or insist that they don't take place; if the organisers don't ensure that the police's plans are followed, they commit an offence. You're right to ask these questions, because these powers are routinely used for other demonstrations.

Chip why don't you organise a march where everyone wears a burka .. Could get high chew ratings and maybe we could get a kickback from the police overtime funds to finance a few youth clubs?

So the police, who have been described by their own internal investigators as being inherently racist, get to decide whether or not Far Right groups get to march on any given Saturday ? And presumably Cleveland Police, who seem to have serious issues with corruption at senior levels, then get to decide how many officers to send along to the knees up on overtime, and what to charge the taxpayer ?

An we get no say whatsoever in the matter ?

Fucking brilliant.

The role of Police and Crime Commissioner is supposed to bring some democratic accountability to policing. However, do you know who they are, or what they're supposed to do? Did anyone vote in that election? You could try to lobby your Commissioner, but it's probably a waste of time.

I think Offshore is on the right lines. There's hardly any point trying to beat the system, so you might as well join it!

Had your benefits cut off? Can't make your weekly wage stretch to food and heating? Join your friendly neighbourhood police scheme. Organise a march and share the overtime.

By the way, why weren't the EDL kettled? All other marchers get kettled. They could have been kettled onto a very small piece of the Heugh Breakwater, and then given a little push.

Scuttling's too good for them. They should be whittled.

Being whittled is so passe.

They have to be spittled.
