A huge lack of creativity by us today. Create very little and adopted a long ball game. James had 1 sniff at goal over the 90 minutes which nearly resulted in the winner. Time n time again we lofted it up high to him and the baywatch defender mopped it up. He was my man of the match although Matty Dolan come very close with his best performance iv seen him perform. Simply faultless.

Thought Compton was coming into the game and causing problems as he was replaced and our attacking game teetered out from then on

Compton only livened up for the three or four minutes when Franks was stood waiting to replace him. He was poor .

We were flat, didn't press them high enough up the pitch created very little so we'll take a point.

its amazing how people see the game from different areas of the ground. I thought compton was poor today. i also dont rate franks as a footballer. when he did come on he received the ball a couple of times, played it back to duckworth then stood still instead of turning and attacking the full back. i am still to see him beat a full back with the ball at his feet.

even simple things like second balls. we never won enough of those today. as for the lack of creativity... i can see why we lost against bury. everything seems to be lumped to monkhouse (who wins his fair share of headers) to flick on for poole or james to then latch on to.

I wouldn't care, when we had confidence and played football earlier only a few weeks back, we looked like we threatened and frightened teams. Now were so predictable, were becoming easy to play against.

Maybe you both can't read. Personally I thought Compton was our worst player on the 1st half.

2nd half I "thought he was coming into the game" as he was taken off.

Maybe only I think that then

I obviously watched a different game to people on here. I thought we played very well today. We just lacked creativity in the final third. I'm confused by you saying James was our best player R. He barely did anything although I appreciate that he didn't get much of a sniff. Dolan was outstanding. Duckworth decent again. Walton was great. Monkhouse did well. Portsmouth had a VERY solid defence and we were just too predictable but we still played some cracking stuff. A very good 0.0.

I don't think we played terribly today, I think credit needs to be given to Pompey. I think it was an outstanding defensive display by them.

We couldn't break them down because they were so well drilled, not because we're shite or Cooper's decisions were poor.

Agree that Portsmouth defensively were excellent. That blonde fella at centre half is only 17 year old!!!!

A bit of a non-game for me.
We defended too deep and played more like an away team.

The long ball to James or Poole will never work, and we only made inroads when we got it down and played it on the deck. We had no cutting edge, and as others have said, we lacked the creativity to break down a well-drilled Pompey.

NEXT...

I thought we passed it about very well. The few long balls we did play were usually Dolan's excellent diagonal passes. Cooper said their temporary manager was a decent defender when he was a player and would have them well organised and so they were. Agreed about their blonde centre-half - he had a great game for a 17yo. Their number 7 also had a good game - we had the lions share of the ball but struggled to get behind them and they deserved their point.

It was hardly a few long balls. Closer to 60 being honest

James goal at Exeter, his header against Wimbledon, his goal against Northampton ?

But I agree that more variety is needed.

The long ball can work to James, but only if we manage to get him in behind the centre halves and have them facing their own goal wondering where the ball is. Portsmouth were clever in that whenever the ball went forward one of their centre halves dropped deep to face up Luke if he got past the other one. This is where we should have started dropping it short to Poole and trying to get the wingers into play. The first half we did it towards the end but reverted to hoofing it at the start of the 2nd. 10 minutes from the end we perked up again but it was always too little too late.

Still, we didn't lose and we could have with the chances they had, a couple of free headers in the first half and that shot that came off the post were very close.

Maybe the Exeter 1 was a long ball, but Wimbledon was a cross and the Northampton goal was a pass. The ball arrived to him knee high

The situation yesterday that kept on happening was a ball arriving head high and he had no chance against Bjorn Borg who won everything.

We needed Compton and monkhouse more involved but they were quiet. Compton was just starting to cause problems but franks had already stripped off and the sub was made. Poole looked lively in the 1st half but was quiet in the 2nd and was replaced by Sweeney who did nothing. Felt sorry for James yday, he saw very little of the ball at his feet
