A bloke at work told me today that I could claim mileage back as a few of us takes turns to drive to work etc and apparently the government let u claim some mileage back as it's better for the environment etc. Anyone know if this is right as can't see anything on google etc?

do you travel to a fixed place of work such as an office or do you work in different locations?

I get 40p per mile from my employer but apparently am entitled to 45p from the government? Thought about looking into getting it back retrospectively but not sure how to go about it.

you get the tax relief on the amount. so if you do 10000 business miles a year you are allowed 45p per mile for first 10000. that is £4500 tax relief. You have received £4000 from your employer so you would be able to claim tax relief on the surplus. If you are a 20% tax payer then you would get £100 and if you are higher rate then the other 20% is claimed through self assessment.

need to fill out a P87 form and you claim it retrospectively so you can claim now for last tax year.
