What a load of bollocks they have all voted in favour of a winter world cup. Backhanders a plenty I bet.

I think England and the FA should just pull out of the competition (if we qualify) causing them to loose a shed load of money. Also how is this going to work with leagues who country havent qualified will their leagues just stop?

cant see the problem, it'll only mess up the domestic season for 2 years for about 24 different countries.

Leaving aside things like Blatter backing the bid and then only realising that Qatar is quite hot after he'd either banked the money or had a quiet think the whole thing reeks of corruption. Why would FIFA and EUFA find no problem with having a World Cup in a country that does this:

http://www.hrw.org/news/2012/06/12/qata ... face-abuse

There are plenty of allegations of beatings in prison, mis-trials and so on but they can all be disputed. Qatari labour laws openly allow migrant workers to be effectively held captive. Presumably they were happy to respect FIFA's special tax free status and throw in a few extras.

Also Blatter with this little gem about homosexual fans attending the world cup:

When asked if he foresaw any cultural problems, Blatter, apparently joking, said: "I'd say they [gay fans] should refrain from any sexual activities."

While Blatter is a 'lovely lovely person' all he is really saying there is when you are in a country respect the laws of that country, obviously in this case the law is not a good one, IMO .

Isn't there also strict alcohol laws in qatar? Can't see that going down well with fans or sponsors

I'm looking forward to the club v country debate. County Cricket clubs have to deal with losing players for international duty, as do rugby clubs for the six nations. I really hope they don't disrupt the domestic season so I can watch the fallout!

for most tournaments players meet up with international squads about 2 weeks after the season has finished, after a wee break, they the have about 2-3 weeks of training n friendlies, then your tournaments 4 weeks, the players are normally given about 4 weeks break before returning to their club.

So if your tournaments starting in about october, rule out any footy in september, october, november.

no drama at all.

We'll be in the premier league then after a fans owned consortium, led by parmo, buys the club n takes us all the way to the top, this will effect us.

And that will give the powers at be a free reign to argue for a winter break and therefore destroy the great time of loads of footy at Christmas.

With regard to the sponsors isnt Budweiser one of the biggest for the World Cup? How the hell is it going to work really? The more you look into it, e.g the heat, the laws of the land and in a tiny country who dont really like football, the more it wreaks of corruption.

It's fucking ridiculous to be fair. Football is all about the fans, without fans there simply isn't a professional game. For once why don't these bastards at the top, blatter and whoever else just think about them for once. In no way whatsoever is this a good idea. Europe have more representation at the World Cup than any other continent and all the big sides have a winter season and this is only going to damage the game for any country involved. The clubs are going to dig there heels in and its going to be the worst World Cup in history. I look forward to all tournaments and watch a large number of the games, there must be loads of others in the same boat who watch all the games yet I can foresee a large number of countries pulling out this World Cup. It will be a farce and blatter and co should just fuck off and respect the fans and the countries involved.

To sum up sepp blatter is a 'lovely lovely person'

And this RB, is why I'm looking forward to it. Money is too influential in football, and a winter world cup will really set the cat among the pigeons. The tournament is far too long for a winter break: the normal season will have to continue alongside (as already happens with the African Cup of Nations). WTF will, for instance, Chelsea do? I can't wait.

If the season goes ahead as normal then fair enough, it will be nice to see the lower teams compete whlist all the big guns are at the World Cup.

However if teams start pulling out then it will become a Joke

I can see a breakaway European federation coming off the back of this, and ending any pretentions to being bothered about the World Cup at all

There will be an international European tournament as well as the domestic leagues,,, there will be rifts between federations across the different continents and players plying their trade in "enemy " federation territory will be barred from playing for their own country etc etc etc.... not that they'll be bothered on the salaries footballers get in any case.... just one possible scenario

It happened in snooker, darts, boxing... we have two rugby codes.... doesn't mean to say it can't happen to footy

In case you didn't know there's a bit of a scrap going on in RU at the moment, driven by the French and English leagues, which could conceivably dethrone the ERC (the body in charge of all the Europe-wide club competitions). It does help that the two mentioned countries have overwhelming financial clout mind and that the ERC is a PLC.

Not sure the same kind of fuck-off would scale up to football world cup proportions though.

Good point on the bbc about this:

This has to be against European Competition law. The original tender was for a summer world cup - and that's what the bid was based on. If the scope has changed this significantly there must be another procurement process. Somebody needs to challenge this decision legally

They can't do that though. Reversing a corrupt decision and running it again would leave the Qatari's having wasted all that money they spent on 'persuasion' and having to 'persuade' the FIFA delegates all over again. Hang on though, that might suit FIFA down to the ground, they love being 'persuaded'.

It's been a while since I did any Competition Law but I'd have thought the problem with going down that route would be one of jurisdiction.

It should be stripped from both Russia and Qatar ..Any place where you can get locked up for heinous crime of holding hands with your partner (no matter what their sex) doesn't deserve a festival of football.

I hate adults holding hands, particularly in supermarkets and shopping centres. Drives me mad when I can't get past the slow moving, soppy fookers. I'd say ban the hand holding for all sexualities but make all permutations of full on consensual shagging legal.

This article probably explains a couple of reasons that a legal challenge isn't possible. Mainly that the winning country didn't sign an agreement to any dates simply made claims it would happen in summer.

If you think Blatter is a nutter, what the fuckety fuck does that make Platini?

Platini is way more dangerous than Blatter. Blatter is just an old fool. Platini is around for the long haul.

Mad as fook.

your not wrong, he's as mad as a box of frogs.

I mean the idea of that dick head stood behind the goal line, with about as much power to control matters on the field as a wet fart.

The guy watched antonio valencia stood about 5 yards offside, obstructing the keeper, on tuesday night n didnt say fuck all wave his arms or nowt, they are utterly pointless.

The decision to move this world cup is staggering on so many levels its ridiculous.

Apart from the obvious......upsetting the big clubs....the poor lambs.......it will disrupt much much more.

If its going to be in winter, it will November/Decemeber, making it 4 1/2 years since the one previous, but only 3 1/2 to the next one. Meaning many more games need to ue tbe fitted in during a shorter period........on top of the extended domestic seasons.

This would affect football at all levels not just the top. The FA Cup would be disrupted, for all, incl the non league teams.

The championship would stop, so the league cup would be affected.

The TV rights for 2018 and 22 have been bought by US Network, on the proviso that the events take place during the northern hemisphere summer. They have paid £1billion for this.......apparently.

They have also bought TV rights to our premier league.....and its all part of their wish to make the US football scene bigger and more established.

Australia, South Korea and the US spent millions on their bids that were for a summer world cup. All want compensation.

Sepp Blatter didnt even vote for Qatar. Platini did.

Who's the biggest nutter then?

This is just the start.

Dibble is right about the madness of it all and there will be a backlash for at least two maybe three season after with qualification for major tournaments and club competitions.

I think the PL / FA and the other leading leagues in the world should just tell FIFA / UEFA to fuck off and say that they arnt going unless its changed. They did it with Mexico when I think Columbia couldnt host it in 86.

It will cause chaos with the Christmas shopping schedule and the drop in custom will finally close down the last remaining shops in Britain. Think about the children with no presents to open Blatter you heartless bastad. And don't say we can get stuff from Amazon because the Royal Mail will have been sold by then and you'll only get deliveries if you live next door to a major sorting office.

Christmas Day 2022, Great Britain in the world cup final, the Queen then Doctor Who on telly as a precursor and watching the game on a 100inch 3D Super HD LED Mega colour TV as the genetic clones of Rooney & Bale take the field against the Formidable nation of Real Barcelona led by an android manager using an artificial intelligence system combining the traits of Clough, Shankly, Ramsay, Ferguson and Mourinho.

I'll probably have fell asleep full of drink.
